Maybe it's taking extra long seeing as it's still on the original Sync. lol
Actually, the total size and number of files in the update can vary depending on the current version. So, since you are on the really old version, your download is most likely a bit larger than for those that have been doing updates all along.

I gave up on the wifi updates after the one time that it did work, but took days to completely download. I recommend going with the USB process.

USB is the only way to go and to me the 20 minutes that takes is too long. I would never even attempt WiFi as I figured Ford probably doesn't put the fastest modem in the vehicle to begin with .

Tried mine tonight and still on build 22200. The truck says it is up to date on the check for updates screen and Ford site still gives me a error when I try to upload the xml file. Same issue as back in November when I first updated to build 22200 the first time. I thought about a master rest but still contemplating doing it. Last time Ford told me it was a know issue and it would update the site via wyfi with in a month and it has been over two months now. All work fine so I guess I'm done messing with it for now. I have not done the map update yet but do have it on flash drive if I ever take a two hour trip.

Do I need to keep the truck running during the update? It’s about 25% done after 20 minutes or so.

No it'll update when it's off.

So I decided to do the update and nothings happening. I made sure automatic update were on, checked that the house wifi was connected and 6 hours later it's still on the old version. I guess my Ranger hates change more than I do. ?‍♂
Dave,

If you are using a Mesh network, you might run into some issues. I found this post and turned off Fast Roaming as described by SteveMat72 in the last post: Reddit Article

Thanks Daniel, I'll have to look into that more. I'm heading out in a few so maybe by some miracle it updated overnight. lol

If you are doing it thru WiFi, I think the truck can be off. But at my house with poor internet, it would take more than 2 hours to download. The file for SYNC is 2.4 GB. That's not including any map updates. I did as others and used the USB method. Downloaded at work in 10 minutes, extracted to USB, installed in truck while driving home. System rebooted about 20 minutes later and said safe to remove USB. Uploaded the XML to Ford this morning. No problems doing it this way. Although I don't have any idea what was changed.
Important note: When using the USB method, the truck has to be running until the updates are complete, but you can still drive while the update is going on.

I have auto update on. Wifi Iin the garage so I need to see if I need to prod it to update. Ford confused me on this one. I've gotten 2 emails. 1 for newest sync for a fee (ill let the dealer do it) and then yesterday the email telling me I can use wifi and no mention of cost. I'm not sure if one is a completely different version and the other is just an update for my current version. I tried the download onto a usb with my F150 and that was a mess, even Ford phone support couldn't fix it so I had the dealer do it and they charged Ford.

Mine auto updates while in the garage. I am showing version 3.4.22200. I'll run an update check tonight. Now issues with the current version though. It has worked better than it ever has.
3.4.22200 is the latest, but if you have Navigation (I don't), the maps made need updates as they are separate from SYNC updates.
