One thing about Ford, they won't mess up their truck business.

If Ford was smart they would let VW help with transmission tuning. The 10 speed needs help. Also add paddle shift.

Remember the VW Routan? It was simply a Caravan with a new badge.
Remember the Festiva/Aspire? It was simply a KIA with a new badge.
For now at least, I don't fear another Courier.

A paddle shifter in a truck??????

LOL

And nothing wrong with the 10 speed.
I was going to say - what is wrong with the shifting in the 10 speed? Mine is buttery smooth - most of the time I can't even tell it shifted unless I look at the gear readout.

2.3L turbo in a truck?
Yes it can handle having paddle shifters. It has the stick buttons which are worthless so paddles are not out of line. Plus tuned the truck can do 0-60 in 5.5 sec. The 10 speed rumbles between 1-2 and 1-3 gears. Wife notices it. Both trucks I drove did it. My 97 F150 was smoother in low gears.
Also in sport mode it over revs when you manual shift. It is slow like most manual shifting vehicles.

Suggest you drive a GTI or R with DSG (Dual Sequential Gearbox) to see how well a transmission can shift. Think Porsche PDK fast. The DSG is actually 2 manual gear boxes with each handling odd or even gears. Shifts depending on conditions. If driving hard it shifts fast.

Yes Ford can learn from VW.
VW can learn from Ford also.
If they work together we benefit from two large companies.

why are you comparing a GTI or Porsche to a truck????
and there are software upgrades to resolve and ruff shifting you have.
This is the same exact transmission that is in the F150. It is not new. IT is a proven tranny.

and how are you blaming the transmission for "over reving" when to MANUAL SHIFT????????????? thats on you bud. shift earlier.

Ford/VW section.
Reason to compare.
2.3L Turbo 4/2.0L Turbo 4.
Engine goes in RS and Mustang so can compare to GTI/ R. Mustang also uses 10 speed.
Shift early, shift late, the engine should not rev beyond my shift, not on me. Remember, I have driven the GTI daily for 4 years so know how to shift auto stick. Drove manual for 35 years prior.

Purpose of post is to suggest how the two could gain from each other.
Each has good aspects.

Point taken, but I really don't think it is fair to compare sports cars to a body on frame truck. For a truck, I am amazed by what it can do.

But each has completely different purposes. The engine is tuned for it's intended purpose. The F150 and mustang both had a 302 v8 at one point. Silly to compare those two.

Ford uses whatever powerplant it has to meet power and EPA regs for any given vehicle. Doesnt mean they have the same intended purpose.

Believe me I know what vehicles these are being used it. But I can evaluate how the engine and transmission work. I also know programming is key in transmissions now. Maybe the Mustang is tuned much better. I hope so. Guess the Ranger is detuned.

Yes good for a truck in the past. But that is not good enough today. Ford only makes trucks more or less. Better up the game. Trucks will need to be more.

A couple of corrections...
It is a SINGLE manual gearbox with TWO Clutches.
Ford has already offered this technology in the US, and the American Buyer rejected it.

The stick buttons do the same thing paddles do on other automatic transmissions.

yes the Ranger is "detuned" becaese IT IS A TRUCK NOT A SPORTS CAR!!!!!

my god man. This isn't rocket surgery. A truck is not a sports car. I dont know how to make it more simple than that.
If you want a sports car - buy a sports car.
If you want a truck - buy a truck.

one thing you cant do is buy a freakin truck and bitch that its not a sports car.
