Back in the 60s and 70s, dealers would put their logo "ad" on the back by drilling two holes and putting the (usually) chrome ad on with a couple of tinnerman nuts. My Dad would wait until the deal was ready to be signed and then he would ask how much they were going to take off for the "free" advertising. Since removing the nameplate would require body work (filling the holes, touch up paint, etc), the dealer would give him an additional amount off the price -- I remember on his '65 Impala he got $100 off, which was a reasonable amount in 1965! Of course, this won't work today since the ads are "stick on" and easily removed, as I found out when I bought my '99 Ranger -- the dealer just removed the sticker! No money off.. :crying:
Yep. I also remember those little black rubber plugs for the holes and the streaks of rust coming down from behind the dealer logo if you left it on. The dealer had double coverage-either people saw the logo and theoretically went to that dealer or your car rusted out and you replaced it or both.

Are you still advertising for the dealership? First thing I took off it was the dealer badge on the tailgate, the 2nd thing was the branded license plate bracket when I got my plates
These are the first things I remove on all my vehicles. I figure if they want me to advertise their business, they can pay me a monthly advertisement fee.

That's my point of view too. I won't even wear Under Armor clothing....they don't make anything without their logo splashed across the front of it, and it's the most expensive polyester on the market, to top it all off.

My dad had a 1960 Ford Galaxie that had the emblem removed and repainted. The paint on that corner of the trunk didn't age the same, and really stood out.

98.5% of my clothing comes from garage sales so I don’t really care what’s on it . Although it’s awkward sometimes when people call me Bob because of the name label on my shirt/coat
