Over the past couple of years I've noticed once it starts getting darker earlier it really takes a bite into my productivity levels. During the other times of the year when the sun is not setting till 8-9pm at night I can, for example keep chugging along with projects, work, whatever - until I basically have to force myself to go to bed closer to midnight or I would just keep going.

Once the sun starts setting at 6pm in the fall my body almost goes into some weird shut down mode and I am struggling NOT to go to bed at friggin 7-8pm at night. I've tried throwing everything at it caffeine wise - or try to power through it by attempting to keep working on something. Just can't train or trick my body and I don't know why. Whether I wake up early 3am or at 6am (daily dog feeding time) - it doesn't matter if I throw extra sleep in either.

It is not S.A.D. if that is what someone is thinking (no depression involved). Any ideas? I was reading someone that light therapy is a thing?
This symptom does have a description and cause: Biology.

It is perfectly normal and aims to move you to winter season (by blocking hormone production).

What you see as the problem is the modern society where you have to do stuff like it would be summer. To remove the symptoms and live happy life as modern society defines, you will need melatonine, light, UVB exsposure, vitamin D and probably some other stuff generated by your body in summer conditions.

So get an UVB light (preferably UVA/B with 280-400nm), wake-up light, 5000k flood light and some medication.

I self medicate myself with multiple 58W/590 5000k 100% RI fluorecent lights (made for print shops) and by popping D3 like candy. Otherwise I'd be a zombie for 6 months, now only for 3. UVB would be a bonus but those seem to be hard to find.

P.S. Old factories used UVB light as normal lighting to make workers happy and productive.

Where I am it’s getting dark at 4PM now. Shortest daylight day is Dec 22. What I found is the color temp of my indoor lights has a lot to do with it. I got some LED ceiling lights that are close to color temp of the sun. Room is evenly lit this way. I really seems better with alertness and less eye fatigue since doing it. With the white light I can only tolerate so long before dimming down a lot.
Rick when I lived back there I'd get really bad SAD (Seasonal affective disorder) every winter but moving here has taken that away. Honestly I look forward to the shorter days now because for one we get so much sun here (300+ days) and two the summers are so darn hot the last thing you want is an extra hour of sunlight. lol It's 4:00 pm now and the still have about another hour or so of daylight left. Trust me once you finally move away from there you'll feel so much better.

As far as vitamins go I only take Vitamin C, CoQ10 and I just started taking 1-1000IU of D3 a day. I don't know if I needed it (will find out when I get my next checkup) but Annie said it's good for you and I seem to have more energy. ?‍♂

Getting all that sun down there, you may or may not be D3 deficient.
