I would get the Ford kit to avoid a potential problem with automatic emergency braking activating without applying the trailer brakes. That is the safest way to go.

I just installed the Ford kit, and it was kind of a pain, but I think it is probably worth it for the above reasons given, but also I wonder if not using the the Ford version (or any version the activates the EBS) might compromise any warranty issues or insurance coverage.

I paid $280 for the Ford kit verse ~$230 for just the Redarc Tow Pro. I got mine from Levitton Ford on line.
