Transmission/engine rattle

Yup, its bone dry. Im convinced it is low, ordering some fluid now. But I won't just dump it all in. Half at a time and take reading after its warm etc.

I stuffed some towels in my glove so I could bear to touch the downpipe... here's the reading warm.

It looks to be at or below 5. I checked it 3 times. Engine still running after driving around for about an hour.

This is exactly what i saw on mine.

As i recall, 12oz took mine from 5 up to 4.

I ordered 2 quarts from ford. Picking it up in a couple days. Probably won't use 2, but Amazon was more for 1, than ford for 2 so.

My 21 ranger tremor makes the exact same noise and it’s only at a certain rpm range under a certain acceleration. Almost sounds like shaking a can of spray paint . But I had some vibration issues before and while I had my truck at the dealer they loaned me another 21 XLT 2wd ranger that had around 10k miles on it . That truck had the exact same rattle under the same conditions . My brother n law has a 21 XLT sport 4x4 and his also makes this rattle noise . That’s three different rangers with the same noise that I personally have driven . I wrote it off as normal considering but I’m monitoring if it gets worse in which I will get it checked. Unless it reaches out and slaps my dealer in the face they will say they can’t see, smell, or hear anything out of the ordinary . I can get my truck to replicate it in neutral if i rev the engine to 4K, let it fall, and give instant half throttle right at 2200 rpm and even then it can barely be heard in neutral . It’s more noticeable under a load . I don’t believe this noise has anything to do with your mods as the loaner I was given was bone stock and a 2wd truck. All my brother n law has is a 2 1/2” level installed by the dealer . Please keep us informed if you find the issue.

Oh wow, so its a lot more common than I thought. I am going to add fluid into it today if i can. I live in Tampa and the Topical storm is headed my way. But I also just thought of something. The reading on the dipstick are on a stock truck with a rake. But we don't know how it would be affected by leveling the front 3 Inches. Well we will see if adding fluid helps it at all.

I'm just upset because it seems like one thing after another. Really poor engineering and quality control imo. Also, I have been wanting to tune the truck, im just worried that I go and do that and the trans explodes a week later. No warranty work. Seeing as this is more common than we thought, maybe it isn't on its last leg?

Maybe it's just me, but with only 23K and a 125K warranty, I'm not touching the trans dip. If it's making noise Ford can add fluid or fix it when it blows.

So I ended up adding some fluid. It actually only took about half a quart. I drove around for a while doing some errands and measured it while hot at the house. It is now dead on mark 4. It also did nothing for the rattle I hear. So unfortunately that wasn't the fix I was hoping for.

I will continue to keep an eye on it for any further changes in noise or functionality. Fortunately I haven't noticed any issues with the trans or motor since this noise started. I just don't know if its a ticking time bomb or not. Tbh, I am considering ordering a 4door Bronco in eruption green with the 2.7l when the order banks open in 02/2023.
