I don't need lights to tell me what gear I am in. However, it just gives it a finished look. My wife's $18k car lights up but my $40K truck wont? just seems kind of cheap to me.
Ah, so lighting things that do nothing makes you feel better about what you had to spend on your new truck.

Personally rather not have unnecessary things lit up at night. There is enough necessary things lit in the cabin affecting night vision.

The shifter lights up on mine but Rangers don't show gear selection.

It's almost become an involuntary reflex to touch the + button on the shifter to get the gear display on the dash as soon as I get going.

They do, but it's on the dash.
Which is why I said I immediately touch the + button on the shifter to get it to appear there...

I thought you meant gear as in PRNDS--which is always on the console. The shifter, even on early models where there's a light, never showed which gear is in use.
