Mine come on automatically when rain hits the window and adjust speed according to how hard it's raining. Love them, never had anything like it before. When it's raining hard they really rip.

Anyone else feel like the fastest setting
For the wipers is a bit slow during hard rain/downpours?
Every other car I’ve owned seemed to have
Higher speed at max setting.
Needs a turbo for the wipers too. Or NOS.

Before I check out tonight, I'll leave you with this to ponder....

If you sit in the drivers seat and turn the wipers on, it goes
left right left right left right.
But, if you stand in front of your Ranger and look at the windshield and turn the wipers on, it goes
right left right left right left.

Just one of life's little mysteries to think about while you drift of to nighty night land .
I ran right out to see if mine did this, so I stood in front of my Ranger, looked at the windshield, but it was impossible to turn the wipers on from there. I had to get back in the cab and turn them on: right left right left right left. I shut them off and went back in front, looked at the windshield just like you said but I still can't turn them on from there!

Does anyone make wiper dampers? The thunk-thunk-thunk-thunk when they reach the end of their travel is a big distraction.

Sounds like you have a major problem...
They should be going ka-thunk ka-thunk ka-thunk...
Looks like they left out the "ka" on your Ranger...sounds like a warranty problem.

The "ka-" was made available only in the XLT & Lariat; mine's an XL STX.

I got it!!! Then I wondered if it has to do with the windshield being laminated glass or something, so I went around to the back and looked through the rear window: left right left right left right...
weird.

The main point of this whole thing is...
What is "fast" and what is "slow" ? Who determines it, how is it determined, based on what facts, and what empirical data was used to formulate the final outcome ?

My 96 power stroke had some fast wipers. They looked like they were bending they moved so fast. So I can see that these are indeed slower but I have yet to notice an issue with monsoons out here.
