My big Maglite would be in this Ranger too, but it has the batteries corroded in the tube, can't get the end off. :( I have been putting off trying to get them out since I think it will not end well. Anyone else ever have this happen?

Yes happened to me too. Used a vise and pipe wrench to take off cover. Then beat the everliving crap out of it to get one battery to come out. The the tube bent trying to get the other 2 out. Yes beat it on wood. So it was pretty much trash. Went to streamlight. A lot brighter and chargeable batteries. I keep the charger glued behin my back seat in a corner so i can get it without having to lower the seat, and plug it to the plug in when it needs charging. This is my 5 to 6 year old light. Lots of the rubber has come off it. Worth every penny. Imo

i "upgraded" most of my flashlights to modern ones like stream light, sure fire etc. but honestly the old mag instruments were better built for a truck flashlight. they never really wear out unless the above happens lol. i have a few stream lights that the push button gave up on and they will not warranty it. ifi could get a modern mag with the light power of the streamlights etc id go back to mags.

When I first started in LE, we had MagChargers in our cars. Great lights. Made good impact weapons and I broke several car windows with them. We slowly transitioned to Streamlights. Smaller and much brighter. Downsides are when the charge wears out, they go from full power to nothing in seconds. And constantly replacing switches. Granted working nights, we used them constantly. Normal use the switch would probably be fine.

I read this. And went to check mine! Batteries are good. Mine is a 3 D-battery one.

Do they make the larger flashlights with rechargeable batteries? I have several smaller ones and they seem to hold a charge a long time. Granted I'm not using them like you did but it seems like a better option as you could have several batteries charged and replace them throughout the night easily if needed.

They do. The SL20 is the biggest. I carried the strion on my belt and stinger in the car. The stinger has a car charger and is super bright. Probably twice as bright as the old MagCharger at half the size and weight.
