Not sure why one would Not do that but ok thank you.
Stupid people are stupid just cause its obvious to you and I doesn't mean it is to everyone there is absolutely zero reason to be a dick to him when he is just giving good info and trying to be helpful. Not everyone knows everything and this is a place to learn and teach as well if you are gonna be a dick when people try to do that you shouldn't be here, acting like a tacoma driver smh.

Ok Ok y’all are rite, people are dumb..I’ll just shut up.
Not necessary dumb, just equipped with a different skill set, or uninformed. I know people who have driven cars for years, and don't know where the oil goes, simply because it always goes to a shop for service.

if i was looking for a place to hook up....i would feel confident with anything in the green, its all connected by a bus bar.
the two red x terminals, i would be very leery to hook up there.

Yes teachable moment: all that metal you see connected to that round thing (called a Battery Post) is fair game for lead jumping. Also Never jump a modern day vehicle with another vehicle; Always use a jump box. ECU damage can occur if using another vehicle, can damage both vehicles. Oh sorry, ECU is Engine Control Unit aka “da computer”.

Fully exposed.... Really? I can so see a non-automotive person clipping the clamp to the wrong spot.

Hey , if it's got a big red wire , it's getting a jumper cable on it ... looks like at least 3 sets of cables to fully energize a Ranger , maybe just 2 if it's not completely dead ?...

But the owners manual only gives instructions for vehicle to vehicle.

Close.... ECU= Electronic Control Unit, and jumping with cables is still OK as long as it's done correctly. Start with both vehicles off, connect dead battery 1st, connect good battery, start jumping vehicle, start vehicle with dead battery, disconnect good battery, then disconnect positive and negative cables of dead battery, done. Also, as a side note, the top lug in the photo has a DOC sensor underneath so I would avoid connecting to that.

Hard to see in this picture but the connector going into the solenoid is heat discolored and the plastic deformed. Had to use a bright led flashlight and zoom in on phone so washed it out. I can still smell the burnt electrical in my nose after being near it sitting here in my house. I am going to let dealer resolve properly.

Years ago had a Jeep Cherokee XJ, same shit happen, I removed the battery cables and measured the resistance or impedance from black to red and it was short, like 2 ohms. I followed the electrical manual and it was pointing to the starter solenoid, the diode protection blew up and shorted to GND instead of open.
