What a great drive over here to Salida, CO today. Mark @txquailguy suggested taking the back route instead of the highway and he was 100% with this!!:like: We went 550 all the way up to Montrose, CO then hit 50 east into Salida.

We did get to stop at Cascade Falls which was another great suggestion from @SkyLord. It's right in downtown Ouray off a little dead end dirt rd. There's a small .4 mile hike up to it so Annie took it slow and she made it like a trooper. There's so much beautiful scenery out here in CO I could've spent the whole month out here. The weather so far has been as perfect as you can get with 50* temps at night and low/mid 80's during the day. Much better than the 110 it is right now back in AZ.

Here's how small the town of Silverton is as we come down into it from 550.

Next is coming up to the small town of Ouray. There's a lookout right at the top of the hill before coming into downtown.

Here's Cascade Falls. As we were driving up there were 3 deer feeding right on the front lawn. I use to love having them come down from the hill into my back yard back east. ?

The trail up to the waterfall. Gimpy made it slowly but it was worth it once there.:giggle:

Some random driving shots of the winding roads and mountains. If it wasn't so darn cold here I'd be packing up and moving. lol

Thanks for asking Rick, I appreciate that. She's doing better each day but still sore. We're plugging along just a little slower for another few days. lol

Matt I really like them a lot. But honestly I don't have much to compare them against because all my other trucks I just left the stock tires on them. They're very quiet and wearing great, I rotate them every 5,000 miles when I change my oil.

My jeep had the KO2's and for the little amount of miles I had on them they were good also. I never did really get it off road to test them out but most seem to really like them too.

How's the Bronco going? Have you been able to get it off road yet , you must have some mods for it already? ?

The Nittos are on my short list of tires to get. I just don't know if I'd ever be able to pull the trigger on new tires just to gain an inch and loose mpgs.... Even though I really want them lol.

I'm glad your having such a nice trip and those pics you are taking could all be post cards!

The only thing I've got for the bronco so far is new speakers. The ones it came with were so muffled i could barely stand listening to them. I always like to keep my vehicles stock for the most part.

The only off roading I've done is a beach near where I live that is 4x4 only and even them it's really tough to drive one especially with the little rain we have gotten. The bronco did well though with 18 psi in the tires.

Are you taking any trails on your trip in the truck?

If you're only going up one size you might not take that big a hit on mpg. I thought I was going to and with the larger tires and level kit it was only about 1-2 at most. Once I tuned it and started running premium my mileage went up. I'm averaging 22 right now and what's crazy is so far on the trip I've got 26.5 and 25.7 on my last 2 fill ups. This is driving 70-80 mph and a lot of elevation changes from 5,000' all the way up to 11,000'.

I read that many didn't like the stock speakers on theirs too. Unless they got the Lux package which gave them the premium B&O the stock ones are very weak.

I was going to hit a couple trails today on the way out here but we got talking and I forgot about the turn off. By the time I realized it we were already a ways down the road. We'll be in Moab in a couple weeks so I'll definitely be hitting some out there. Ive just got to be more careful now because of all this shortages I can't afford to break something up there and be stuck without a vehicle. Yeah soft beach sand can be a pain to drive on especially without the right tires. It's still fun though and as long as there are others around getting stuck usually isn't that bad.

Nitto’s really?? They are the bastard red headed step child of Toyo!!! I have had Nitto tires on my too high 2005 F150 FX4 with a 4 inch Rancho suspension lift as my first tires. They were great in almost every way until they wore out at 32k. Tried Dick Cepeks but could never keep them balanced and then BFG KO2s which were ok but hard, noisy and wore out at 41k. Then I tried Toyo Open Country A/Ts. Great performance in all aspects, smooth but would “sing” at 75-80 mph. I got 58k out of them and replaced them with the same. 15k later I gave it to my granddaughter when I got my 2021 Lariat FX4 a year ago.

Nittos are very nice but tread wear is not optimal.. Just saying…

I was just hoping to get 40K out of them and so far with 22K on them it looks like I'll be close. WIth the heat out here tires wear super fast but I don't take corners at high speeds anymore and rotate them every 5,000 so will see. ?

We didn't get to see as much of Salida as I'd like to but it looks like another really nice small town here. It was just an overnight stop and the lady at the desk recommended going to eat at a place called The Boat House. It was right on the river and we sat in the bar where the sides are all open so you could watch people rafting. I wish we had a little more time to walk around more but maybe another time. We'll be in WY later today and then Custer, SD on Friday which is where we both have looked forward to going for many years.

The Boat House Restaurant which has a great deck out back to eat on and watch the rafters on the river.
