If you feel the need to retain the right to break the law, then buy an older vehicle. My stroked VW beetle does such and is emp resistant as well?.
Another VW guy. '74 Thing here, but 70mph is scary in it. I'm much more comfortable on the backroads at 55, thank you.

all the regulation, restrictions and bans one could ever imagine will not stop bad people from being bad or bad things happening. arguing with that fact will uncover the fool inside us all lol. all of us have the ability to be good people or bad. all of us have the ability to make mistakes, problems or help or hurt others in some way.
BTW, you can keep the participation trophy. I don't need to feel special. ;)

I have no doubt that this is used ironically, and maybe more so the earnestly, but I have a some acquaintances in Germany who definitely mean it.
Oha! They must be pretty old…

Sounds to me like you want others to regulate everything you do on the off chance something bad might happen. Everything is "unsafe" in some way until you get to a padded cell. It's an obvious slippery slope.
… and even there you are in danger of being tortured by crazy nurses. the safest place was in mummy's belly…

Yesterday, a motorcyclist blew by me like I was standing still in a 40 MPH zone. Oh, I forgot to mention, there was another vehicle driving right beside me in the other lane. Idiots like that need to be controlled by technology. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less if he kills himself, I just don't want to be the one he hits and ruins my day also.
These idiots couldn‘t be controlled by tech. They need some more lessons in social studies .if you haven't heard it before, it's a subject taught at German high schools and more important than it seems while u are the student.

So we should give up and resort to constant monitoring becoming virtually caged by technology.
Sorry but no.
Making kids is easy, raising them right is difficult and too many don't have the skills or desire to do it. Put the phone down and take responsibility for your offspring, give 'em a smack when they need it. Stop giving them things they aren't ready to be responsible for and make them earn them. Stop bailing them out when they screw up and let them figure their own way out of their mess. Teach them skills to make a living and live life responsibly while they are young and not all the other nonsense. Give them options and not answers when faced with decisions. Logical reasoning and desire go a long way in life but it's a skill too few possess anymore.
Look in the mirror and ask yourself "did I do the best job of raising my kid today?". Mine are gone and out of the house doing "difficult adulting stuff" as they would say, and I still question if I could have done something better. Not to make their life easier, but to navigate the difficulties faced daily and make the best decision at that time and accept the responsibilities.
Going further, in case I haven't offended anyone yet. Get rid of all the warning labels on products. If you can't figure out you shouldn't stand on the top rung of a ladder, hopefully you learn after you fall off. Stop saving stupid. We need more Darwin award winners to thin the herd and make it stronger.
It's not the technology I fear, its people's use of it.

Edit: and I forgot to add, if we all need big brother watching all the time, you've given up faith in the human race. I'm not ready to give that up yet.
I never said to give up, just said it's not easy.

I agree with those that believe automated enforcement of traffic laws hardly rises to the "threat to our liberties" status. I am no constitutional scholar but I am skeptical it protects a persons right to break the law and not be caught by any means other than a live law enforcement officer witnessing their transgression.

I also appreciate anyone's fear of creeping government meddling in every aspect of our lives. When I couple this fear with my own experience of watching the AI in my YouTube TV stream continually nominate the Kardashians for what to watch and make the local broadcast of the SF Giants nowhere to be found, I understand what is possible, versus what is practical, needs to get a little closer together before cars start telling us what to do. :)

look at the flip side of that concern...speed limits were in place because it's a dogs breakfast of morons on the highways. The more idiots, the slower they go.
control them all, and you can safely increase the overall speeds and get you to your destination faster

think of all the airplanes in the air....they cant just bomb around like mosquitos in the tent running into everything in their path. The control of them makes the flow efficient.

on a side note, i think strangling some of the soccer moms throttles in school zones in my area is a good thing.
You do realize apart from rules regarding various altitudes and heading most airspace is uncontrolled and planes do fly at their own discretion without talking to atc. If you are talking about commercial lanes aka class a airspace they also don't talk to the tower most of the time they just follow the path. It is done by the pilots not atc.

yeah, that's the control, the pilots professionalism ensure that the rules are followed.
unlike all the NASCAR race fans that bomb around on our highways
You kinda just destroyed your own argument regardless it is still done by the people operating the vehicle they are still in control they are ultimately accountable there is no difference apart from training and medium. Big brother controlling things will cause way more issues than it solves. There is a reason that the pilot does the flying and the pilot also is ultimately the one who makes the decision. As an aviator myself if ATC tells me to do something I don't like or am uncomfortable with I can say no, the buck stops with me not anyone else I am in control and I am accountable for every decision I make but ultimately I make the choice.

there's a toll highway around home that could easily hand out speeding tickets through the mail.
all it would take is some legislation at the provincial level and it would be done.
right now, its a drag strip. if you're not doing 130km/h, you better get onto the shoulder as Gramps in his Prius is floored and catching up to you.

a simple time over distance calculation timestamped by the toll roads cameras with entry and exit would suffice as proof that you were speeding.
i would consider it an enhanced photo radar system.
Right now, the police cherry pick the occasional excessive speeder and hand them stunt driving tickets, license suspensions and impound your vehicle. but only a small fraction of those willing to risk it.

Do I speed...sure I do
I got a $200+ photo radar ticket a couple months or so back in the mail from Vancouver. Going to the airport at 3am, i got nipped doing over 80 in a 50 zone. Did it slow me down the rest of the trip? nope, cuz I had no idea I got caught. So i continued on as a menace to the homeless pedestrians that ply the streets that early with their loaded shopping carts filled with Cats they sawsalled off parked cars overnight.

Had my car been controlled by some other means, I would have had a slower, yet safer journey for all and probably wouldn't be such an angry prick all the time. To be able to just chill out for a drive would probably be good for my mind in the long run.

under no circumstances would it remove my rights to travel or anything else i can think of. A free pass to push my luck and break laws in place isnt a right.
So you want to be babied and not be accountable for your actions? If you realize the way you drive is an issue man up and fix it dont wait for the government to do it for you. Your car doesn't have to be controlled by other means you need self control and to get your act together that is not the governments job.

im not really in this debate. however, a trend is taking place where many things are becoming more regulated, mandated or govt. controlled. sure speeding can be dangerous. i would wager just about all of us here have done it at least once if not on a regular basis. i recall a how fast have you gone thread some place around here lol. in my mind the speed thing is not the issue. its the erosion of free will and choices we should and have had in the past. we are already more watched, logged and tracked than any other humans in the history of man kind. how much more are we all willing to give over to governments that most of us do not trust or agree with on a regular basis. this is not political difference. put that aside and be logical, how many members of congress are like the rest of us honest working tax payers trying to take care of our family etc. how many of those elected leaders are hurting every time they go to buy fuel to drive to work, or even to the store to get grocery items. how many of them double check the locks on doors before bed or sleep with weapon near them since crime is normal in the area they live. enough is enough, we hand those people way more than is fair and majority of us are model members of society. we follow laws, pay taxes and do good deeds. a fine line exists between citizen and subject no matter how hard it is to recognize it is present. the line is not speeding but it is a step closer towards being on the side no one wants to be on but blindly keep moving toward. we are close to having no privacy already. regulation is not the answer. controlling the way one may drive is just one more drop in the bucket. these false utopia society dreams have been tried where the govt handles things and everyone is equal, stickers and ponies and meta.com... they almost always fail. most of them end in tyranny, genocide, slavery and some of the darkest moments in human history. the ideas for those systems came from the most vile people to live. that is not my urge to go fast or be a jackass speaking. ive matured past that like most of us. most of us are decent human beings that do not want to be watched and monitored like criminals. besides my blab, is it not foolish to enforce something that is ALREADY enforced. clown shoes. instead of giving more grief to the person that is speeding to make it home before pooping in pants why not use all the tech monitor over the shoulder government crap to stop drunk drivers, or cancers, or spread of sickness... that would be to logical. im done. hand it over hippys. its yalls kids that gotta live in the mess left behind.

you do you bud, i'll do me.

If you can imagine, I paid the ticket, that's owning what i did. I can afford it so there's no further deterrent, yet i am still a menace on the roads. whoopdefuckingdoo.

You as a pilot also know that your can also be fined and lose your licence for not following a procedure or a command. Unless you declare an emergency as a last resort, the appropriate regulating body can hit you with fines and you know this.

further rules are made because people cant follow the current ones
sure i can try and follow some restraint. How well do you fare in your perfect world? Are you so perfect you're amazing?
That is why I said I am accountable for my decisions, the fact that you are irresponsible and have no self control doesn't add to your argument or give any merit to what you are saying it just proves that you are irresponsible and have no self control. I am hardly perfect but I don't make excuses and need the government to stifle me in order for me not to be a jackass
