I found my drivers side foot pan and a small part of the drivers side rear seat carpet drenched in water the other day. After a stormy few days.
pics below. It was about 1/2” water inside the lower door panel. I took it off to explore the issue.

contacted the dealer I bought it from(sound ford). At first I was juggled between operators on the phones as usual. Called about 3-4 times before I got forwarded to the manager for the issue. He was very polite and said he would push for new carpets from ford.

He listened to what I had to say and he said “yes it could be anything. We are (ford) really trying to focus on the issues with the newer model platforms such as the ranger, bronco, and mavericks.” They’re really trying to make the consumer happy with their new market products. I think that’s great.

Only thing is it sucks it’s going to take a month to get the rental for warranty the work. And the carpets already stink. I think I will cover them up with rubber floor mats for now. There is a water proof seal inbetween the main black carpeting and the padding underneath (it’s all soaked).
Rental: They can’t reimburse me for out of pocket for sure and I don’t want to Uber back and forth to work if it becomes a week fix, I work at 5am. I’m willing to wait a month for the appointment. At that point they might as well replace the carpets since it will have time to fester…
I repeat the Damp carpets smell bad already. Good old spore toxins.

I feel like it’s either a clogged drain for the AC since I have never seen it drain into the ground (it’s over the transmission to the left I believe) or it’s a seal from the outside that’s not supposed to allow water through somewhere…
With the ac it would be over filling somewhere before dumping into the cabin. Also I park on a slope so the water would run towards the drivers side front area (down hill and slanted the left).
The ac has always had a funny smell to it. Sigh.

Check the door weather seals. Close the door and have someone spray water around the door as well as across the window. While they are spraying, inside look around the bottom of the door card near the speaker and see if water is running down onto the carpet. My driver's door had a slight leak in this spot and the dealer told me they had several other Rangers in for passenger side leaks just like this.

They ended up replacing both weather seals, the environmental barrier foam in the door as well as the speaker due to water damaging the cone.

My concerns about what you said with the door seal, the drivers side door sticks out slightly at the bottom. I can actually push it into proper position with my hand.
Probably the source honestly.

thats alot of water for an AC drain.

coworkers left the window open on the company GMC during the heavy rain we had earlier in the week. it wasnt even that wet.
I don’t want them to have to drop the transmission in order to access the drain port. This is the first time I’ve noticed it in 2 years of owning the truck. The smell I always thought was from my wet dog in the back seat cage.

That really sucks.
I would agree that it is probably a seal when that happens. In my old F150 my back seats and kids booster seat would always be wet when it rained. I couldn’t figure it out for the longest time. Turned out to be the rear window seal. Same with a leak in the passenger side of our van. Window seal.
good luck. I would just cover it and spray some febreze and drive while waiting for it to be fixed. No point wasting money for a rental or Uber. If you thought it was your dog that made it smell before just keeping thinking that till it is replaced.?won’t make a difference then.

My 98 had a leaky rear window seal. some black RTV sealant fixed it right up. lol.

My Honda Fit had some persistent water problems that I was never able to satisfactorily get addressed.

I had some body work done after a parking lot incident, and the passenger door started leaking afterwards. Got that dealt with, and then discovered water pooling in the spare tire compartment when I traded it in for the Ranger (hurry up, put the cover back on so they don't see it!)

I had a 98 f150 single cab and it also had the leaking rear window seal ? I’m sure it started to leak after 6 years after purchase if I remember. When I took it over from my father I used silicone to seal it up. That was one of fhe leak sources, the other was from the rear bed being smashed into the cabin vents. This was from loading it with thousands of pounds of rocks and gravel over the years lol.

I didn’t notice until like 3 months after buying it. Barely noticeable from far away and certain angles.

I had the same issue with my 2019, turns out it was the back window seal. They fixed it and replaced my carpeting, since it smelled like mildew.
Thanks for feedback! I did mention that. Hoping it’s a simple find for the dealer.

Many years ago I owned a Falcon hardtop sports coupe, every time I turned left in rainy weather my feet sometimes would get a cold drip. It was long out of warranty ( bought second hand) so I pulled out the cowl vent and the bottom of the dash.
Must have been a Friday car, someone forgot to put sealer on the last few inches of the spot welded seam in the bottom of the cowl on the RHS. So if you went round a left corner fast in heavy rain, obviously the water would pool there instead of running out the drain in the middle.

A bit of body sealer and quite a few words, - it was a bitch to get at, fixed it for good.
