finally back on the mainland and we got the stretch the truck's legs out: living out of it for two weeks in Baja California.

first sunrise in Baja. we love this truck. takes us anywhere so the world is our oyster and camping is free!

probably half our time was beach camping or sea cliff camping. cant beat these views.

not every road was passable.

Those are some great pics! Well, except for the one with the s*** in it. I hate that stuff.

Took the truck out this weekend on Hermit Pass just outside Westcliffe, CO.

https://www.dangerousroads.org/north-america/usa/3938-hermit-pass.html

Truck still amazes me. Got it on two wheels going up a 6 degree incline without the rear locked and it was able to apply traction perfectly. Incredible traction control system on this truck.

What impressed me most is that I never once hit a rock on any skid plates, sliders, or underbody bits. This truck is just the right size for off roading on these tight trails.

Trail control is something I wouldn’t want to do without anymore. Having it lock the throttle at a steady state when you are bouncing over boulders makes for a greatly improved off road experience. No more jerky throttle from your foot bouncing around.

There's a lot of other nice easy roads off the main one so on your way down you can venture out on them too. We did a few of them and they were mostly fire roads so a nice easy drive. There are free range cows there so be careful they don't end up in the road like what happened to @Frenchy here.

We go up to Flagstaff every summer for a week to get out of the heat down here. There was only one other person at the top when we went there and if you have a portable hammock bring it. I think it was the first opening on the right there's two trees close enough to string one up. Nice place to take a siesta and enjoy the view.

This guy looked hungry. :surprised:

a couple shots from echo canyon (death valley) a week or two after the baja trip.

at the steps. twilight is coming.

1648094366635.jpeg

the crux step. no problem, right? toss a few rocks down for the passenger rear wheel and we will drive right over. (such optimism)

post crux step;)
my crappy trailbuilding meant that when we were climbing the step, the rear wheel kicked my rocks out and suddenly i was high centered on the frame right next to the wheel. ended up just winching the car forward with our fancy new come-along. my wife absolutely loved finishing the second half of this trail in the dark.

stock ranger, two naive offroaders, and a comealong. no problem!

jealous of your adventure ! nice to see a stock ranger could make it. im sure the pictures are deceptive in that the steps do not look so bad. i bet in person they look much meaner!

yeah. but i woudlnt say a stock ranger made it if i had to winch..
we are so used to just driving over anything that i have become somewhat complacent. i should be spending more time choosing lines or making rock piles since i refuse to get a lift and big tires;)

the waterfall is about 5 feet tall or something with an impressive step. you can see all the trailbuilding everyone has been doing to get up it. its always annoying to look at these photos and think "well that looks basically flat"..

she still made! winching is not a give up lol. If you ever saw the old camel trophy guys they were digging winching kicking and cussing the entire way, i would never tell one of them they didnt really make it .
