Left work yesterday and as I accelerated (normally) on the highway she made a loud "BANG" and then coasted, lots of warnings came up on display and engine light and wrench..:explode: I got over to the side and realized my engine wasn't running anymore. Get out and lay under truck, driveline is all tight front to rear, no oil leaking from anywhere ( means no holes in anything :like: ). Electrical plugs that I can see are all hooked up properly. Checked engine and tranny oil and both good. Tried to start in PARK and felt truck is lurching, trying to move. Re-started in Neutral and she's trying to go, this makes me believe the Torque Convertor has piled up( based on experience and trade knowledge ). Truck managed to move at about 25-30 kms/hr so I limped it to the dealer in Town.
Waiting for diagnosis......
I searched the forum, couldn't find anything on this, anyone have any experience ?
Oh yeah, and then my wife had to drive into the city to get me during one of the worst blizzards we've had in years! Spent the night at a friends because we couldn't get back home:frown:

Was it driving normally prior to this? Have enough ATF? I wish we had easier access to the transmission fluid dipstick on these trucks . ???

I hope your part(s) don’t take forever to get to you and your dealer takes care of you. If dealer says no loaner try to talk directly with get warranty manager of the area.

It does sound like the Trans. is locked in gear. Hope you get it fixed quickly.

Interesting to say the least. A few questions if you dont mind. How many miles and any modifications?

If anything it could be a simple defect that caused this issue but who knows for sure. Once diagnoses is done we shall find out

Hi Mike,

Hmmmm....Does sound like the torque converter. What many folks do not know was there were different part numbers for the venerable C6.... The base unit had a torque converter that was assembled with the blades mechanically set in the outer Ring. The HD has the blades brased in an oven to make the assembly more robust.... Off road races found this out, but most folks are not aware of the difference. So some failures like you experience can be from a thrown blade in the Torque Converter. JMO...

Best,
Phil

I guess I'm probably a minority opinion here, but I guess I don't see how a damaged / locked torque converter could causes the vehicle to move if the trans is in Neutral or Park. Not saying the torque converter ISN'T damaged, but seems like you'd have to have more going on to make the output shaft spin. In Neutral, there is no torque transmission at all. Seems to me a locked up torque converter would have the following symptoms; When shifted out of neutral, the engine would stall, or chirp the tires / lurch forward. But not while in Neutral...
I'd expect either to find a clutch pack somehow engaged in Neutral / Park (not that likely), or (more likely) broken parts in the transmission, getting stuck in the moving parts and transmitting torque regardless of clutch pack status.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. It sounds serious. Hope you still have warranty to get it fixed...

Dealer hasn't been able to get at it yet, truck is still sitting in their yard. I made it in before they locked up their compound last night and hooked up my scanner.
Truck has codes for BCM, TECU, 4x4 system, Throttle Body, Collision avoidance, Auto start/stop. I didn't get any deeper into codes outside at -34C.
Truck has 39000Kms. I have the front end leveled with a 2.5" BDS kit. That is the ONLY driveline modification. I have also made various ForScan changes, well over a year ago with no issues since. Truck has been running fine, no issues at all, in fact this is the 1st time its been back to the dealer since I drove it off the lot ! ( I do all my own work and maint )
My Wife works seasonal, so I'm currently driving her Wrangler and don't require a loaner vehicle(they can save them for someone who needs it).
I'll update once they have a diagnosis. Hoping I have it next week as I have a sledding trip planned to the mountains and kinda need by Ranger !

COLD WEATHER PROBLEM.
Diagnosis, heavy ice build up on the inside of the intake manifold / plenum assembly due to the extreme cold. The ice actually cracked the intake and split it open:shock:. Said chunk of ice then slammed into throttle body, stalling truck and damaging throttle body. Everything went into Limp mode, including the TECU( limited to 1st & 2nd gears, 1400RPM max ).
There is an updated intake(for this cold climate issue), with new PCV lines and oil separator line coming from the USA. Told aprox 1 week down for parts.
I'm happy its not anything more serious, and I can make due without the truck for a week.
