Accident prevention system

Well I didn’t even know this truck would do it but it fully applied the breaks and prevented me from rear ending some idiot. I wasn’t paying attention either so I’m also an idiot. It definitely made a strange sound, like the cranking of the e-brake.

Has anyone experienced this feature in full?

Wow...is that system automatically on or do you have to push a button.

It's on by default, but the sensitivity can be adjusted.

I hadn't realized you could tune the sensitivity on it. I've seen it 3 times now, none of which were an emergency. First was on the freeway when things slowed down quickly - I was already braking, but it started squawking at me - kind of startled me. The other times were when someone was turning and I was approaching - again, I was braking, but nothing was that close. I think I might turn down the sensitivity of it.

Do you think it could be possible to wire an on off to a switch rather then going into the settings every time? When I will be responding I think this will be going insane as I cross lines and such

I leave the collision stuff on, I have it set to medium, and it complains a lot when people are turning. I did disable the lane keep assist as it did some weird, and mildly terrifying things once during normal casual driving. I'll probably turn it back on when I'm on the e-way though.

As for the collision stuff, I figure the worst it can do is cause someone behind me to rear end me as it's quite capable of applying the brakes in a split second.

i'm hoping my brake lights activate when this feature does it's thing LOL

I've had it activate three times. None of them were situations where I couldn't have stopped myself.
First time caught me off guard as it was a car turning in front of me. he suddenly braked and turned with no turn signal. but the truck assumed its math was right and I was going to hit him. the dash lit up, the horns sounded and it applied the brakes at the same time I did. so I got a weird feeling in the pedal as I tried to play catchup, while trying to understand all the noise and lights.
The second time, on the highway. standard stop and go traffic and i only got the visual and audible warning.
Third time a car turning well in front of me. I just did a lane change and had more speed going than the turning car, but he was going to be well out of my way anyways, unless his axles fell off at that very moment.

All in all, I'm glad the system is there. I'm not a perfect driver, so something that acts as a back seat driver without the incessant nagging of an ex wife is a good system in my books.

I know when active cruise control is on and it slows you down automatically the brake lights come on, so in this situation, I think they come on too as it's a very similar function on the vehicle.

The first time this thing went off on me it freaked me out and I spent more time trying to figure out what all the dinging was about then paying attention to the road. Thankfully it wasn't anything that would actually have been an accident.

Second time it went off I was turning right onto a freeway on ramp and there was a car parked on the shoulder. Not sure why it thought that was an issue but who knows.

Sounds similar to my 2015 Explorer, it would flash red bars on the windshield from the heads up projection light it had in the dash and would ding. I just knew of some corners w/ guard rails that it would go off and even in my dad's 2015 F-150 it'd do it too in that same part of the road. Or at other times on the interstate, it would go off when coming up behind semi-trailers and merging to the passing lane that had the very shiny clean doors w/ diamond plate.

I know when active cruise control is on and it slows you down automatically the brake lights come on, so in this situation, I think they come on too as it's a very similar function on the vehicle.

I think it should flash the brake lights on AEB, but I haven't tried following my ranger while it's running into something so I can't say for sure.

Had my truck's system light up today when two people attempted to merge into the same lane, right in front of me, and then both jammed their brakes at 70 MPH. Fortunately I was on it as it happened but the system appeared to be on top of things too. Gotta love the Capital beltway on a Friday afternoon!

The collision avoidance is different than lane keeping and adaptive CC.

Odd I don’t hear the warning but have had the red flashing light on the display. Being a aviator it is like having TCAS and a stick shaker for lane keeping.

The tech is not perfect. IMO the dealers should do a better job at demonstrating the systems and not assume the driver will read the manual.

It’s like when anti-loc brakes were becoming the standard, the driver has to change habits, do not pump the brakes, just stand on them.

I've found that there is no tech in vehicles that is perfect.
Every time I've bought a new vehicle the dealer has asked if I need anything demonstrated and I tell them "No not really", I've read the manual front to back several times while waiting for my vehicle to be built and delivered.
There are many times I know more about all the new things before they do as they don't get time to be sent to all the training across the US to get fully informed of every new thing that's put in the vehicles.
Dealing w/ small town dealerships is great because you are not just a sale.
