I started using USB stick full of MP3 for the truck. It works and all but almost every time I start the truck, it says can't find stick then starts playing from FM radio and then it detects the stick shortly after. Once in a whlie, it would play from USB after start. I tried three different USB sticks with same result. How do i make it to play/resume from USB stick every single time i start the truck? It seems to me if I could increase the delay time, it should work.

EDIT: 4/1/2022 - Resolved for now.... see https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/using-usb-stick-with-music-for-sync.17596/post-399294

sync3 takes forever to start up and will randomly decide it's waited long enough and defaults to FM. does the same for me with bluetooth sources. yes, it's annoying as hell and it would be nice if it either started up faster (that would be best) or at least waited longer for its own startup to finish before deciding that stuff isn't there (sucky, but less sucky than what it does now).

Maybe turn off the audio before turning the truck off, and leaving it off for a few seconds after re-starting? The USB are powered even with the audio off, so it may recognize them faster when you turn the audio back on after the truck has been running a few seconds? Maybe?

Well.... oddly enough, bluetooth did not have this issue. I was using bluetooth with my phone for a long time before I decided to switch to USB to save battery life on my phone.

Try this SETTINGS > MEDIA > RESET MEDIA INDEX this helps with a lot of gremlins, esp voice recognition of new content. Turning off Gracenotes can also have an impact
I'll try them. Gracenotes - is that an app or something?

I just want to start my truck and it's playing from them without me doing anything as I did not have to do that with my old 2010 Ford Fusion and 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid.

I use USB a 32GB and a 256GB sticks both with only wave files no MP3 and I only occasionally have issues with it not recognizing at start up. I also have the 4" non-touch screen and a keyed ignition. have you tried pushing start before pushing the brake?

Gracenotes is what tells you what is playing and the graphics that go with it. Some on here had some issues with it. Think last update solved it for many and some it didn’t

I fought this on my '19. Have not had the new truck long enough to establish a pattern. It seems to be resuming from USB so far, but only tried a couple of times..

If your USB drive isn't formatted as NTFS give that a try. I had mine arranged in 2 top level folders, then artist/album. It also helped getting rid of the top level folders and having everything as artist/album.

Some people suggested getting rid of the folder structure all together and just dumping MP3 files into the root of the drive. I never went that far.

FWIW mine is a 256GB USB 3 drive, formatted NTFS with mostly FLAC files and some 256KB MP3s. It's playing fine in the '21 and has resumed the couple of times I've tried it.

I didn't realize NTFS is supported. Mine is formatted as FAT32 but i do have two folders structures. Thanks for suggestion.

I'd mostly consider NTFS as the worst possible choice. FAT is the best, exfat is a possibility especially for large drives (which will often come preformatted that way these days). I think most of the "solutions" for sync3 are folk remedies that aren't particularly repeatable.

Ok I disabled the Gracenotes and then went to reset media, it says to remove it and plug it back in.. so i did that.. with 10 second in between unplugging/plugging back in. Let's see if that works tomorrow when i start the truck.

Also i just realized there were extra files like Albumart jpgs. I may just have to take it to my PC and delete those files.

Thanks for the help! Will report back.

Still having this issue. So what I'm doing now is, delete the index, removed the USB stick and plugged into my PC, formatted it as FAT32 again and copied all songs from an album into root of the USB stick and go from there.

I had over 4000 192kbit mp3 (like 15GB). Now it's just like 10 songs on root of USB. Will report back.

Mine did it yesterday. Ran an errand and when I came back to the truck it switched to Sirius.?

First time on the new truck. It's not the end of the world, but the Grand Cherokee I traded went back to USB every time. If FCA can do it why can't Ford?

I think on my 19 I tried the few songs in the root and that did it too. Don't remember for sure - I tried a lot of things.
