I really like the old school look and want to run two 6" lights on the front of the truck. I have the stock bumper. I know about the SVC light bar. It was my first choice but I never got around to ordering it and now they want $300 for it.

Are there any other solutions to mount round lights on the front? I saw that someone used a license plate bracket mount but I'm not running a front plate and I'm not sure our plate mounts could support the weight anyway. Are there any other solutions?

I appreciate that kind of out of the box thinking!

I just went out to look at the truck. I don't think those plastic tabs would work for mounting, however the same 2 bolts that SVC uses look like they are in a good spot. I might be able to just run some bar stock across the bumper there, then bolt or weld extensions directly to the bar. It wouldn't be too hard to DIY. I'm just not sure of the strength and if the lights would vibrate too much. It would be a lot of weight at the end of a lever which is not good long term.

I bought a plate mount to see if it was feasible to use and it's pretty stout. Attached to the plate bracket, the mount doesn't bend or flex, so I think it will support lights. I plan on welding a wider bracket to it and mounting an light bar to it.

I found this one that has a wider bar on it already, I just wasn't sure if it would support two 6" lights. The thinner LED ones would probably work. If I had a front plate I'd probably try it.

Not to be a Debbie downer, but I don't think those "extensions" would work. There's nothing to keep then from twisting. And 4lbs at the end of a long lever sounds like a horrible idea.

And seeing how our front plate mount works holding just a plate, there is no way I'd mount 8lbs of lights to it.

Your best bet is to spend the coin on the SVC bar or make a DIY equivalent

OMG!!! Look what I have!! I completely forgot I purchased these!!

Sign of old age.

These will work. The other end sticks' out farther then the license plate.

Just place your lights on the other end.
I think that would definitely work for smaller LED light pods. I don't think its enough for the larger 6" KC/Hella/Pro comp style lights though.

Really appreciate all of your suggestions!

OK I may just try this method. I took a better look and I see how that could work. Can you do me a favor and tell me the length and thickness of that bracket? Is it steel or aluminum? You would think the maker would list that information but I could not find it.

One more recommendation: ARB USA is a out to import the Solis 21. It should be the most powerful (as in distance) 6 inch round on the market, and will be priced extremely aggressively. I'm told they should be here by end of Jan.

I'd go with that SVC bar. It's a little pricey, but bad light mounts are...bad.

Obviously skip ditch lights. They may be easier to mount, but it's just the worst location for wind noise and hood reflection. Down low, in front of the truck is the way to go.

Frenchy? Is that you?

What's so shitty about Baja Designs and Diode Dynamics?
Any maker who quotes only lumens is lying to you, the consumer, through omission. Of they can't/won't tell you how their lights actually perform, you don't know how to use them effectively. You see that in all the Instagram builds that slap 10,000 mid or short range lights all over the truck. Such a setup will actually reduce your ability to see down the road or trail at night.

The gold standard is 3rd party tested distance for 1 lux. Any quality light manufacturer will submit their products for testing, then advertise that number.

I think you really want to consider your use/need. I like my fog lights down low. As soon as there is an obstruction in the way, they cast shadows. Lights mounted higher up do better for distance lighting. Not sure what the goldilocks light or mounting/aiming position is. Also, why many who use the truck off road, go for multiple lights.

I didn’t go to school for testing lights. And you need damn near the same level of education to read the testing reports. I would ALMOST trust a politician more than companies selling lights, almost…. I do put over the reviews from other users. I’m okay being a late adopter so I can get some real world input. Really happy with the DD lights I purchased. Will likely stick with them because - matching!

What is more American than “Spray and pray”? You can apply that to so many things, I’ll let you choose what you think I meant.
