After resisting the strong urge to rack and RTT, i listened to the overland crowd and gave up my RTT obsession and will be getting a good swag instead. Frees up a lot of $ to be used on other gear without giving up the same basic functionality and convenience in the field without all the hassle when I'm not in the field.
I considered the swag, but they don't make one a good size for a wife and child (don't have a child yet, but I know it's in my future)

Here's my budget camper with the end goal being a GFC to swap out the canvas topper.

'21 XL SCAB with a Deck'd drawer system and a Softopper canvas truck topper. Pics are from our end of Fall camping trip in Big Bear, Ca.

The ARB Skydome Swag has a double size that might be what you're looking for. There's a Land-rover centric channel called "SeriouslySeries". The dude Geoffry is a geologist in Western Australia; he lived in the bush out of his for 3 months. Pretty decent review. Hope this helps!

I already have a 23Zero RTT. The wife and I were able to test a bunch of RTTs at a local shop and decided that a double was fine for 2 adults, but not when you throw a child in the mix. The 23Z tent we got is a queen size when open.

Not to sound like a noob…. What’s the SWAG acronym? I’m drawing a blank.

Who’s using their Ranger for overlanding/off grid camping?
This is what we started with last spring vs. what we travel with now. Only 17K miles in 9 months, but a decent portion has been in some really pretty spots.

Started Overlanding last year and have had a great time. Spent nights in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia so far. Hope to hit a few spots early next year and maybe something out west in the later half of 2022.

Swag is a style of small ground tent made popular in Australia for overlanding. Usually a heavy duty material and includes a thick foam mattress. The whole thing is held up with 3 poles, doesn't require stakes, and is rolled up with bedding inside. Doesn't work for car camping with a car or SUV because the rolled size is large but perfect to throw in a truck bed.

Also pretty much the latest in "Overlanding" trends to make it to North America from Australia or South Africa LOL

Thanks guys. I had been looking at OzTents before I got the FSR. First time seeing those Swags though.

Hey SurfRanger,
Couple of questions on your tent. How much overhang above the tailgate do you have with the Superlite?

Any issues with length laying flat out? I'm 6ft and sleep on my back, not sure I'd have clearance for my big feet sticking up.

Bummed to hear that GFC just discontinued the Superlite tent a few days ago, that was in my top 3 replacement RTT.
I have about 26in from my rearmost support plate which is over the recommended but I’m watching out for any negative affects. (None so far) as far as overhanging the truck i can say its a little less than the length of the tailgate when its down. I stand on the tailgate to get in and when down its probably 6in longer than the tent (mind u i have the 6ft bed obviously).
Honestly i had no troubles at all sleeping in it and infact love it (I’m about 6’1). I took note from a superlite thread on gfc and can stuff a rolled up yoga mat at the bottom to raise the hinged end up for extra foot room but honestly ended up not being much of an issue. U will feel it on your toes depending on how ur positioned and how far you are scooted towards the main entrance.
definitely a bummer they stopped but i bet v2 will be even better and have me itching to spend more unnecessarily.
