Hey guys, I've been trying to diagnose this issue for a while now. I have a 2020 Ranger XLT sport appearance package. I've done work to it, however this noise has been there from the beginning of my mods. When it appeared, the dealer had just done the ford performance tune on it, and the only other mod was the borla s type exhaust. Since then I've added:

Turbo smart BOV (thought the stock one couldn't handle to boost pressure, didn't change anything)

32.5 inch tires (GG ATX)
BORA 1.5 spacers
Fox suspension
Mishimoto catch can

I've posted the video so everyone can chime is as it's not something I've seen before. Let me know what you think.

Maybe find a shop with a dyno to help diagnose under loaded acceleration?

sounds like a tuning fork.

I could, however the Dyno shops in my area are good at tuning and not much else. May be worth it however.

Since it doesn't happen during high revs, but under acceleration/load a dyno shop may be able to help diagnose the location. It sounds like a tuning fork where metal is vibrating to metal. Doesn't seem to be a "screech" that you would expect if metal was rubbing like brake discs. Since it happened before the other mods and the only other physical mod was the exhaust. I would focus on those areas first. Otherwise thats a stumper for sure.

Definitely has me lost for ideas. It only happens under WOT at higher revs. I'm not sure why.

My first guess would be that somewhere along the exhaust it is rubbing on something. Under load/acceleration the exhaust may be moving enough to rub against something. Then the exhaust is acting like an amplifier through the tubing. Only possible thing I can think of.

Interesting. I will definitely have to check that for sure

HI James,

This whistle sound if to which you are referring is what I am hearing, it could be exhaust gas passing over a sharp edge like a exhaust coupling with a burr. These are tough to trace. I had this same noise with which to deal only twice in my time at Ford and it was resolved by replacing the exhaust system...verifying it was eliminated and reinstalling the suspect system where the noise returned...both times it was a sharp edge over which the exhaust gasses flowed. To start with, I would take a rat tail round file and smooth the outlet at the back of the pickup box. Knock any manufacturing burrs off the tail pipe and see what if anything happens.

Long shot, but worth a try....

best,
Phil

Check / lubricate the internal o-rings on the BOV. Mine makes a very similar noise with the GFB bypass valve when the o-rings dry out and stick slightly under boost. Use a synthetic lubricant like CLP-4 (gun lubricant). You will need to disassemble the BOV to lubricate it.
