My sister-in-law recently picked up a 2015 2nd Gen Tacoma. This was the first time I had the opportunity to drive the 4.0L V6, much peppier then the 3rd Gen 3.5L V6 we test drove before purchasing our Ranger.

So here is the test, from a stop I floored the gas pedal on both trucks, starting and ending at the same locations. Both 4WD, 4 door and automatic transmissions with stock tires.

I was surprised with the results, just a little...

2015 Tacoma 4.0L V6 with 35,000 miles = 75MPH
2019 Ranger 2.3 EcoBoost with 8,000 miles = 86MPH

That 2nd Gen Tacoma was a really good truck it's to bad they messed it up in the 3rd Gen. Those numbers seem about right as the turbo kicked in and launched the Ranger. ?

@AzScorpion by chance do you know why they downgraded the engine from 2nd to 3rd gen? For better mpg or reliability?

Thank you Dave ? fulfilling my need for random information hehe. I like how that thread everyone was boasting it would be way better in 2016 and then you go to page 6 and everyone is crying about the new engine. Hahaha. Comedy.

Here my friend, until we meet in Sedona ?

It's funny because the members there are almost as bad as politicians. They're you're best friend one minute then eat you alive the next. I remember one member raving on how great the new 3.4L was and it that no one knew how to drive it properly. He said you had to drive it at 5000 rpm and it runs great because that's where all the power is. lol While true who is going to want to rev out every gear at 5000 rpm around town?

Lmao, fake people, the worst. Glad we have lovely bunch of fellers here. Plus their UI is horrendous and hurts to read those posts.

Hahaha, that guy man clearly just wants big huge balls hanging off his hitch as long as it's a Taco with balls, he is happy.

After having my Tacoma and being on that forum I was really reluctant to join this one. But glad I did as it's been one of if not the best I've ever been on! There's going to be disagreements anywhere but usually here they seem to work themself out and everyone kisses and makes up in the end. lol ?

I don't know this for a fact, but my guess would be economics. The 4.0L was only available in the Tacoma, while the 3.5L was in more vehicles. They could save money by dropping the 4.0L and using a more common engine.

Understandably so hah. You are so right about the little arguments and everyone just getting along in the end. It's beautiful.

That would make complete sense.

I am still on Tacoma World, but I have to be careful how I post over there. I have been put in a timeout several times. The mods are a bunch of leftist snowflakes. If it doesn't align with their beliefs, they ban you. But by all means, say anything you want to about the other side or bad mouth religion and it's okay...
I like it here better.

You're a bigger man than I am. lol That place is just as bad as Reddit! I stopped going on there shortly after getting my '16 Tacoma. I'm one who has a hard time biting my tongue and knew I'd get banned. :lipssealed:

The 4.0 is still used in the 4Runner here and in the Hilux/GX/LC Prado overseas.
