I was going for the Gator EFX but the sales guy talked me out of it when I was asking how well will it hold up to Hail and stuff dropping on it.
He was pushing the FX3 something about the exposed material being some kind of plastic or something that don't dent?
and was thinking I would like how it folds up against the cab but on the other hand I would not be a fan of folding a cover up and having it block the rear window PLUS rubbing aginst the paint with a rubber mounted body and solid mount bed.

Than I hear the factory had a 4 fold that was made by Bak flip? so I happen to be walking through the used trucks yesterday and here is a ranger with a Bakflip g2 and the surface of its all dented up.

Tell me about this Lomax, is the exposed surface any stronger? I mean I am not throwing saws up there, etc but I don't want something that will dent real easy if someone else sets something on it. The lomax looks like it might be a solid 1/8" aluminum cover? Plus and I like the idea of how easy it detaches if needed.
I am looking at the matte black. is this some kind of spray on surface or just matte black sprayed on aluminum that will scratch real easy.
I read on hear someone say how easy the lomax would be to break into, but is it any harder to break into any other cover?

I've got the Lomax on my truck and love it. It's aluminum, so you it'll hold up well and you don't have to worry about it denting from the hail (unless you get those softball-sized hail stones in Florida - I don't think ANYTHING would hold up to those). It comes off the truck pretty easily for full use of the bed - not too heavy and manageable for one person.

Here it is on my truck:

I had a BackFlip on my old Ranger and have a factory hard fold on my new Ranger. They appear to be the same cover. No problem with the old. So far, no problem with the new. I also went back and forth on the back window being covered when fully opened. Then I realized that if I was hauling anything big enough to require full open, I'd probably block the rear window anyhow.

Probably the only thing guaranteed to not be damaged by weather or dropping things on it is the Diamondback cover, but that is on the high end for price and not that convenient to uninstall.

Covering the rear window when using the whole bed is a deal breaker for me on the tri-folds. The roll ups are not as secure, but are much more functional if you use the bed a lot, IMO. I want to be able to see what’s behind me and the status of what I’m hauling in my bed at all times.

? Is the lock hidden? Like you have to open the tailgate to access?

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Covering the rear window is not an issue with me, I don't use it much, that is what mirrors are for. I ordered the Bakflip MX4 tri-fold that flips up and secures close to the back of the cab. Seeing as it holds 400 lbs on the closed lid and is sandwiched aluminum in pebbled black it will match my spray in Rhino bed liner, give me better MPH, and help secure my stuff as it locks with the tailgate. (as do most covers)

2 reasons I got the Ford version of the Bakflip is one, it was free, 2 no external locks ( but a serious thief will find a way) and 3, ok 3 reasons is my “friends “ won’t ask to move big stuff but I can still haul my own big stuff, ok 4 reasons…

I’m happy I have it and I won’t nitpick a freebie…
Now if I can figure out how to make it as dust free as possible that would be great…

I sealed my’05 F150 pretty well but that fine off-road dust still seems to make it in… So a huge reduction of dust would be ideal, it’s never going to be perfect…

I read someone posted they were disapointed on how easy it would be to unlock a lomax with a screw driver. But they all seem to have the rope inside you pull to unlatch the cover (after you opened the tailgate)

Yes, you do have to open the tailgate to open the cover. It doesn't have a lock, but does secure enough that it won't fly open - somebody with enough determination would be able to pry it open.

Yep, that's the case with the Lomax. There may be more secure versions out there, but I went this route because I didn't want it to cover the back window when open and can easily remove it.
