Thinking of buying one to capture some of the silly stuff I see on the road, but not sure I want to mount on the windshield. Has anyone mounted one in the dash tray?

I played around with this in my Edge. Putting the camera on the dash severely limits the field of view of the camera. Some of what is impeded is a close view of a license plate. For an idea, use your phone camera. Set it that close to the dash. You see a lot of dashboard, windshield dot-matrix, wipers, and hood.

As for a camera - I am really happy with my BlackVue 2-camera system. I have the BlackVue backup battery to record while parked as well. Just upgraded from a 128gb memory card to a 256gb.

There is a thread on here about dash cams already. Very good read and informative. Probably will answer any questions you might have

Andrew I went with the Thinkware U1000. Here's the write up I did and there's some more info in this thread. I was going to buy a cheaper one on Amazon but after watching a ton of videos and reading up on them the cheaper ones just don't give you the clarity you need .

I went to blackboxmycar for reviews and purchase. Ended up with a blackvue for my needs. Excellent support even from a Canadian company shipping to US.

Also look at the Garmin Dashcams. I have been using Garmin for about 8years now. Never had one go bad.

If your a vet. Blackboxmycar has a discount that you can apply. I had to ask for it and got it. Actually, it’s always a good idea to always ask. I have received many discounts that way.
