Hey Group,

New Owner of 2021 Lariat 4x4. Truck is on the way. Have a wife who needs assistance getting into and out of truck. She has Parkinson's. Is there any business who specializes in customizing rear suspension? Looks like the front is lower than the rear on this truck...I see any number of lift kits, but would like to lower the rear approximately 2 inches.

Can't comment on that, but agree it's hard to get into the bed for old or height challenged folks. I put a bestop step on mine.

There is a thread talking about lowering. But, not sure that is your best option, personally. I might look at a step option... that's my opinion.

Yes, Tom. A running board is on order and I thought that leveling the truck from the rear would decrease the height that she had to step.

Copy. I'll be honest, the running boards are good for my short wife. I try to use them myself so I don't mash the seats getting in, but they are too high for me. I have to duck once I step on them. I'm still glad I have them.

You may find a step will help your wife.

I'm with you on this, though not for the same reason. Sorry about yor wifes condition. I do not off road, so i don't want to raise the front but dislike the huge amount of rake the truck has. I do tow a TT, so i don't want to remove all the rake.

Currently there are only two options to lower the rear. One is completely rebuild the rear suspension of the truck and replace the rear leafs with coil-overs. Not an in-expensive option. @Doc has done this and can explain more.

The second option is the Beltech rear emd flip, to put the axle on top of the spring. This is currently a minimum of a 4 inch drop. Too much for what I want. They us the OEM springs to keep cost down, along with longer shackles to get some hight back.

Now, if someone would come out with a kit that had the flip parts like Beltech with new higher arch leaf springs to give me the 2 to 2-1/2 inch drop I'm looking for. I'd be on it.

Hi Gary,

Unfortunatey, lowering the rear will not help. Step bars help my wife.

There's another option as well IIRC.

A user here has been experimenting with overseas WildTrak multipacks with one leaf removed.

Also, AMP powersteps or the Westin motorized steps might be more helpful than regular boards.

Just tossing an idea out there but there may be spring shackles that lower the truck. If not, they very well may be easy enough to manufacture at a local shop. The ratio per drop is the main question I suppose.

I would say the best bet is to get an awesome set of side steps. I have seen motorized ones that might be the best bet for you.

Because of the current rear suspension geometry, axle below spring, short shackles, low arch springs. The only viable way to get any significant drop is an axle flip. The European spring option only gains like an inch max. Without doing major frame modifications a 6 inch drop is probably pushing it without limiting suspension travel (bottoming out).
