Well, the fun was short lived. One weekend and my Tremor is back at the dealer with the dreaded shutter on acceleration...They are applying TSB 20-2277 to try to address it. Anyone else having this issue with their Tremor?

Well I was hoping that maybe the multi leaf springs would of remedied this..

or not a problem at all? ?‍♂
yeah...hope that isnt the response...unfortunately, not my first rodeo here...had two Fiesta STs with the coolant drip of death taking the life of one and a buyback of the other...never fixed the issue, just stopped making the car...too bad actually....

well....they did the TSB..got worse. They are trying to find another driveshaft to swap but did not have one. I was sick of driving the ecosport so I grabbed the Ranger back...now waiting for Ford Engineering to get back to them....so, we wait..

BUT...interestingly, I noticed the tire pressure was at 45psi when cold, so I dropped them down to 39 as it is supposed to be and the truck rides sooooo much better, less noise and feel less vibration too..

Hi Chris,

Sounds like they got the shims in backward and did not check their work. If truly start up shudder, it happens briefly from a stop to maybe 10 mph and lasts a second or two at best. Continuous vibration is another problem and your dealer should have the NVH equipment to determine the source of the vibration....Wheel/tire or driveline etc. If they do not have this equipment or a qualified Tech...find another dealer....

Thanks Phil. Took it back and they rechecked the wheel balance as I am currently waiting for a new driveshaft per Ford engineer's direction...of course its back-ordered, so I wait.

I can tell you that there is definitely a startup shutter that happens exactly as you describe....BUT, I also have a serious vibration at 40-50 and 70-85 that feels exactly like a bent wheel or bad tire. I feel it in the seat and in the wheel. I've felt my share of poorly balanced wheels in my day and I would swear that this is the problem. I have not owned a 4x4 pickup so everything about this Ranger feels different, but it just feels like im driving an old F series....with old tires....its not what I would expect from a $45K 2021 truck.

One other reason I am believing the tires/wheels are related to the higher speed vibration is I can actually hear a harmonic noise like a bad tire which seems to correlate with the vibration I feel in my seat and wheel....

Hi Chris,

I would agree with you on the higher speed vibrations. Hope a new driveshaft works....if we had the vibration freqnency at the speeds you experience the vibrations and the transmission gear, we could determine if it driveline or 3.73 times lower which is wheel/tire...Maybe 2nd order tire so half of 3.73... This is an example of what we engineers in NVH use as the investigation technique to radar in on the area of concentration of root cause. Ford has developed some NVH diagnostic tools to allow the dealer tech to do some of this too. Most do not understand the orders of being 2nd order tire but the tool takes them through this for example....

Your calibrated assometer is likely by way of experience on track... Tire balance is not always the answer as you can balance an out or round tire or wheel and call it good but in the customer's hands sitting in the seat...it is bad...

Thanks again...just wondering...i've been looking into some NVH instruments for my own learning..I tend to enjoy these things and would love your input on some of these instruments and what kind of technical experience is needed to be able to use them effectively...seeing that some Bosch units that claim to be able to be effective with little knowledge can be had for several hundred dollars might be something I may just look into acquiring and playing with...if nothing else it may upgrade my chassis ears somewhat... any suggestions?

HI Chris,

I am not familiar with what is "out there" today, but there are phone apps that can determine frequency. Just the basics.... Engine RPM can be expressed in frequency. Divide RPM by 60...so idle at 600 rpm is also 10 HZ. Now if a four cylinder, firing frequency is twice a revolution or at idle of 600prm is 20HZ...Okay still with me... On a V6 firing frequency is 3rd order. V8...4th order. So if you determine your vibration is above the engine rpm at 40 mph for example, but it is a multiple of 1st order...you have an engine excitation problem...now down the drive line which has to factor in the transmission gearing to determine driveline rpm. If the problem matches driveline vibration, then you know where to focus. For example....the offending vibration is at 40mph and the 10th gear ratio is 0.5. or half engine rpm and lets say your tach reads 1200 rpm or 20HZ, your vibration is at 10 Hz or half ... look at the driveline. Now go through the rear axle at 3.73, if the vibration around 2.6Hz...then you have a wheel tire problem.

Make sense?

I'm just a guy doing things.
I'm having the same problems. 2021 Ranger Tremor Lariat 4x4 and it shakes and shutters from a stop, shakes and shudders from 25 to 35 mph, and then continues on at basically all speeds above that. It's the worst when starting to accelerate from a stop and in that 25-35 mph bracket, though. The vibration and the shaking drives me insane and it's all I can think about when driving the truck. It is present at all speeds.

It's at the dealership again and they're trying to investigate the source of the problem, so we'll see what comes of it. They're being very helpful and have escalated the problem back to Ford engineering, which I'm thankful for.

Chris - have you had any luck with yours in the last couple weeks?
