Couldn't see a way to get this into the gun thread (maybe admin can move?).

Anyway, this is one of those "Boot on top or bottom" or "tastes great, less filling" types of things where people go both sides..."wears out spring rebound" or "never seen any issue".... What say you?

Goudy:
Now is it not true that you sprang up on old man Wharton and his two sons with a deadly, six shot revolver in your hand?
Rooster Cogburn:
I always try to be ready.
Goudy:
Was this revolver loaded and cocked?
Rooster Cogburn:
Well, a gun that's unloaded and cocked ain't good for nothin'.

I watched a YouTube video about a study by an engineer about the springs in magazines. Keeping them loaded is just fine, like mentioned above. The number of times the spring is cycled (compressed and decompressed) is what wears them out.

This matches my rudimentary understanding of metallurgy as well.

Any firearm I might reach for in need is always kept in the ready.

Retired, target and plinker firearms are stored fully quiesced.

For every gun I have a minimum of 6 mags for it and all are always kept loaded. Been doing this for 35 years and have never had one fail. I have heard of people having issues with cheaper mags like some Glock knock offs from Korea but if you stick to OEM or good aftermarket ones like Magpul or Amend2 you should be good. With that said all my carry guns have only OEM mags.

Every magazine I own is loaded. And been that way for years, some over 10 years. Ammo out of a magazine takes up space I don’t have. Pistol or rifle caliber don’t matter, it’s loaded up. Not because I want to be ready for the zombies. I just like to grab mags and go shooting, nice when already loaded.

I've been using Wilson for years on the 1911 + the two that came with it (S&W)., If I had any concerns, it would more than likely be for something the Prius Prissies of the LeftKoast would mind melt over involving 7.62 Nato :lipssealed:;)

A lot of "OEM" 1911 mags are Wilson Combat mags. Best mags out there! :like:

Unloaded it is nothing more than an expensive brick.....
And unless you trained with the IDF one not in the chamber is silly as well. Israeli carry works for them because it is trained on so hard. Every day Joe is in for a rude surprise when his gross motor skills go to pudding in a split second.

As I've always said, "A unloaded gun ain't nothin' but a purdy rock." Cocked, and locked brother.

Why have it if it ain't loaded? I keep at least a couple of mags loaded at all times for my Glock 30 and all of the mags are OEM.
