I frequent a lot of straight roads that really require minimal input on the steering wheel. Our Rangers kindly remind us to keep our hands on the steering wheel when minimal input is detected for some time. This can be alittle annoying as said on straight aways, any way to turn this feature off?

Thanks

I'm not sure I follow. Are you talking about the lane departure alert?

No, try this next time you’re in your ranger. Dont move the steering wheel on a straight away and your dash will display a message to “Keep hands on steering wheel”, if no input is still detected the message will turn red and start beeping at you.

There is a button on the end of your turn signal switch. Push it in and it will turn off that particular feature

Soooo, "someone I know" had an experience where their hands were off the wheel for maybe 2 seconds, and during that time, the truck decided to attempt a 90 degree right turn in order to follow the white line as it curved out towards a road on the right. This person tells me it was "Super F-ing scary", and has since disabled the lane keeping assist.

I'd keep your hands on the wheel from now on, or at least a knee...

I've played w/ the lane keeping and driver alert system in my 2015 Explorer and even on my new Ranger on the long straight desolate high ways of Montana and have had no issues, the wheel doesn't correct to make a 90 degree right or left turn it's a slight correction and maybe 1-2 degree correction in all my tests.

Yup, this person told me it was abrupt and terrifying, they even had their wife and kids in the truck as witnesses.

i think if it's expecting hands to be on the car it adds some force to overcome the weight of your arms, if those arms aren't there, the extra force makes it go wrong.

The easy thing is to just keep your hands on the wheel where they should be.

(hint, it was definitely me driving).

I got the warning once. I think you can disable the driver alert monitoring in the driving aids menu on the left screen. I think it’s separate from Lane Keep but can’t remember
It is separate from the Lane Keep, but I can't remember the settings either. I think you can change the sensitivity of the Driver Alertness setting too, but I'd have to check when I get home.

v3 of owners manual states it's in one of the sub menus so it should be able to be turned off.

DRIVER ALERT (IF EQUIPPED) PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION WARNING: You are responsible for controlling your vehicle at all times. The system is designed to be an aid and does not relieve you of your responsibility to drive with due care and attention. Failure to follow this instruction could result in the loss of control of your vehicle, personal injury or death. WARNING: The system may not function if the sensor is blocked. WARNING: Take regular rest breaks if you feel tired. Do not wait for the system to warn you. WARNING: Certain driving styles may result in the system warning you even if you are not feeling tired. WARNING: In cold and severe weather conditions the system may not function. Rain, snow and spray can all limit sensor performance. WARNING: The system will not operate if the sensor cannot track the road lane markings. WARNING: If damage occurs in the immediate area surrounding the sensor, have your vehicle checked as soon as possible. WARNING: The system may not correctly operate if your vehicle is fitted with a suspension kit not approved by us. Note:The system may not operate correctly if you modify the ride height. Note: Keep the windshield free from obstructions. For example, bird droppings, insects, snow or ice. Note: If the camera is blocked or if the windshield is damaged, the system may not function. Note: If enabled in the menu, the system activates at speeds above 40 mph (64 km/h). When below the activation speed, the information display informs the driver that the system is unavailable. E249505 The system automatically monitors your driving behavior using various inputs including the front camera sensor. If the system detects that your driving alertness is reduced below a certain threshold, the system alerts you using a chime and a message in the information display. USING DRIVER ALERT Switching the System On and Off Switch the system on or off using the information display. See General Information (page 88). When active, the system monitors your alertness level based upon your driving behavior in relation to the lane markings and other factors. 185 Ranger (TFG) Canada/United States of America, enUSA, Edition date: 201809, Second-Printing Driving Aids System Warnings Note: The system does not issue warnings below approximately 40 mph (64 km/h). The warning system has two stages. First, the system issues a temporary warning that you need to take a rest. This message only appears for a short time. If the system detects further reduction in driving alertness, it may issue another warning that remains in the information display for a longer time. You can press OK on the steering wheel control to clear the warning. System Display When active, the system runs automatically in the background and only issues a warning if required. You can view the status at any time using the information display. See General Information (page 88). The alertness level is shown by six steps in a colored bar. E131358 The current assessment of your alertness is within a typical range. E131359 The current assessment of your alertness indicates that you should rest as soon as safely possible. The status bar travels from left to right as the calculated alertness level decreases. As the meter approaches the rest icon, the color turns from green to yellow to red. The yellow position indicates the first warning is active and the red position indicates the second warning is active. Note: If you have recently received a warning, you should consider resting, even if the current assessment is within the typical range. Note:If the camera sensor cannot track the road lane markings, or if your vehicle speed drops below approximately 40 mph (64 km/h), the alertness level changes to grey for a short time and the information display informs you that the system is unavailable. Resetting the System You can reset the system by either: • Switching the ignition off and on. • Stopping the vehicle and then opening and closing the driver’s door.
From version 2 of the owners manual, Version 3 has different reference pages.

Driving with your knees and not actually holding the steering wheel put down your cell phone that should take care of the problem. As to the lane assist if you don't do the above you won't know it's there they put it in because you do all of the above and more depending on whether you are male or female.

I have read the printed copy of the owners manual and the online version on the Ford Pass app to see if i can adjust the setting for this particular problem. I have never seen the cup of coffee alert.

The Hand on Steering Wheel Alert is part of the Lane Keep Assist.
Note: When you select aid or alert and aid mode and the system detects no steering activity for a short period, the system alerts you to put your hands on the steering wheel. The system may detect a light grip or touch on the steering wheel as hands off driving.

I would like to increase the time between alerts, not turn off the system.

I don't drive without at least one hand the wheel at all times. I have a phone holder for my phone between the driver seat and console for charging and Android Auto.
I harp on my kids when they are driving and looking at their phone. I can't preach that which I don't practice.

If i was driving erratically, then the warning would never show up. but it does only when driving on roads which require little steering input.

I tried taking my hands off on a nice straight road today I didn't get any warnings. Is this feature tied to a specific trim or option package? I have 2020 XLT with 301A. No radar cruise control or front parking sensors.
