I had mine done right after I bought it in January 2019 and it was $1200. Front edge of hood, fenders, roof, A pillars, bottom front of rear wheel wells and door handle depressions. My favorite part is that it is self-healing in the heat.
After having it for some time you feel it was worth it?

Absolutely! All I have to do is look at the front of my Lincoln and I can realize it; I just ordered chip repair for the MKX because I didn't get PPF.

I just order an AVS Bugflector II, I like the idea of the protective shield in the more vulnerable areas. Is that a DIY project or is it best to have a pro do it?
Steve, I found this video on how to install the AVS Bug Deflector II on a 2019 Ranger this morning. I am considering getting this model myself and like the way the installation is done. Hope this helps.

Well this thread made me do it.. Made an appt to get PPF installed partial front/mirrors and down the sides 8 inch coverage, door cups and edges 1350
Ok got another quote for 700 same coverage but a 3M film with a 7 year warrantee
1350 was for XPEL 10 year..

Is XPEL worth almost double the money over the 3M Film?

What's the warranty for...the film or the possible paint chips?

Protect the thin paint from damage?
My point exactly. Warranty should be for the purpose of the film. Not the integrity of the film (not that it's not nice to have and appreciated). That film offers no protection for the paint if the energy of the rock can chip the paint and provide support for the paint chips to remain in place and still show damage. I'd love to avoid chips, but I've seen damage beneath the film.

Agreed I am not believing that the film will magically prevent all damage to the paint. Depending on the size of the rock/debris nothing will stop it as you stated. But the film should prevent the vast majority of day to day road rash.

I'm not sure if it's worth it but I have the Xpel. I didn't even consider anything else.

It is intended to stop the typical gravel/sand road rash type chips. From experience I can attest to it stopping rubs from branches and vegetation as well. If something is large enough to dent the metal then, of course, it can't be expected to protect the paint in every case.

I love it and can tell a difference in every vehicle I have ever owned since this is the first I've had with film and the first that has NO chips.

Good point Phil,

It would be interesting to learn the exact issue on the 5Gen paint and if it is or is not a good standard quality? It seemed that the outside edges on my two front doors chipped too easily when I accidently opened them on some objects inside my garage. Again, the 2011 Ranger had very endurable paint.

My 2003 also had durable paint (same color as yours!). The body was still rust-free when I traded it in for my 2019, and over the years I only had to apply a couple dabs of touchup paint for a few door dings and one canoe-hauling mishap.

I guess it depends on the wear. I understand the film won't stop boulders. I expect normal wear and tear...not sand or winter wear. I was disappointed in what I thought would be considered normal exposure. Consider the cost with Black Book when you trade your vehicle. I'm hoping for a better paint.
