I am installing the Reese Stead-flex 66559 and wondering if it is acceptable to install the hitch bar in the upward direction. The instructions "show" it mounted in the downward direction, and does not mention anything in the verbiage one way or the other. The installation instructions say to set the ball height at 1/2" to 1" above the trailer coupler. With the hitch bar turned down and the hitch head installed in the highest hole, my Ranger is like an inch "below" the trailer coupler. Then when I install the weight distribution bars and let the trailer down on the truck, there does not appear to be any load on the bars at all!?!
If the hitch bar is turned over (pointing upwards), it just seems to me that if I install at a higher height, I could get some weight on the bars.
Anyone know if it matters?
FYI - with the trailer hooked to the truck, the front wheel-well measurement only increased by 1/4".
I still plan on going to the CAT scale tomorrow...
