Hey, where's the best and worst place you ever got stationed?

I'll go first...

  • Best: Tough call between Korea and Alaska.
  • Worst: Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
My entire stint was at Cape May, NJ. It was HELL while i was in basic haha, but beautiful afterwards, i LOVE the northeast coast.

Why does everyone hate Ft. Sill hahaha, My wife is from oklahoma, and i lived there for about 15 years.

Trust me, there's a reason we no longer live there :p
Well then you've answered the question for yourself already. That's usually the best way to describe it to people who are from there but no longer live there..."Hey, you left too, right? Well then you already understand why it sucks." ?

I still work for the Government, just in a civilian role, and a LOT of my co-workers are veterans as well. We've had this discussion, and i don't think a single one of them had anything pleasant to say about Ft. Sill, or even Tinker AFB for that matter.

Hi Folks,

Does it count for a military brat? Father was USAF for 30 years. I was born into a military family until I went to College. We had so many moves. I had four grade 4 schools. Three different High Schools etc. It is a rough life for a military brat. But...It taught me to quickly assess good kids vs. Turds. Also taught me a lot of different cultures in our off shore assignments. Hated it growing up but it made me appreciate what experiences I had. Yep...was in Germany in 61 when the Berlin Wall went up and we thought it was WWIII. Dad was commander of a Missile base and we thought we were likley to never see him again much less us living many more days. Anyway, I am thankful for all of you that served your country and I display my flag proudly in memory of my father and his years of service and to the lifestyle of which our family was as well if all of you on these forums!

I can think of one thing at least...some of the prettiest women I dated while in the Army were found in Oklahoma. ?‍♂?

I count it Phil you probably lived on more bases than most people . Your dad was in my business except I did it in the Army . Never wanted to think about firing the missiles , scary . Always thought both sides were just giant targets .

Hey, where's the best and worst place you ever got stationed?

I'll go first...

  • Best: Tough call between Korea and Alaska.
  • Worst: Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Every assignment had great ups, big downs:

Michigan -- met wife of now 40+ years, summers were great if you did not work that weekend, winters were bad.

UK -- Fantastic, except for working in an organization so bad the entire command staff got fired and I had a general officer apologize to me over the mess. By the time the general was done, highest rank left was a junior captain, even most Sr NCO's and civilians were gone. My captain ended up retired as a Staff Sergeant!

Mojave Desert CA -- Fantastic job, weather was terrible. Both kids born there. Job so classified my wife was not allowed to know my work schedule. Lunch with Ronald Reagan and then Margaret Thatcher was pretty cool stuff.

Oklahoma -- Friendliest people who could not drive on the planet. Job was worse than terrible except for doing counter drugs while in Panama and my 1st deployment to the middle east.

Tampa -- Great job, 24 hour notice to deploy to the middle east sucked. Coming home in uniform on Christmas eve and watching people line up to give up their seats on an overbooked flight out of Atlanta to make sure I got home is something I'll never forget.

The big constant, the locals and co-workers were all great people (ok, there were a few back stabbing political hacks tossed in along the way). From every walk of life, every background they made the whole journey worthwhile.
