Does the 2019+ Ranger's speedometer sensor pickup read off the front or rear wheels? Thanks!

yes!
Ok, "I think" it uses the wheel speed sensors from the ABS system...Hope that helps

I was wondering if Rangers used just the front or rear sensors for the speedometer. When measuring actual tire diameter to set up a speedometer programmer, I like to measure the tire where the sensor reading is taken from. The front tire's static loaded radius is less than the rear because of the engine weight up front. Thanks!

I thought it was off the transmission. Because if its off any wheel, skidding spinning or whatever will change it and be erroneous

While trying to use Google for an answer, I came up empty handed, but found this...
Enjoy spending more money.

Older Jeeps had a speedo drive or (later) vehicle speed sensor on the transfer case. I think (but could be wrong) Rangers take it off a wheel. I did a search, too, and could find nothing. If I don't get the Ford Performance tune, I'd rather program the speedometer using the Hypertech speedometer/gear programmer. I've used them before and they work well. Thanks!

further google searches lead me to the F150 forums with the 10 speed transmissions.
they all point to the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) being found on the transfer case, taking its reading from the output shaft.
Thanks for taking the time to find this information! I had only searched for the Ranger.

the thing is, I remember trying to recalibrate the speedo in my 98 ranger...what the Ford tech told me was that the computer used the wheel speed sensors from the ABS to feed the speedo/odo, and recalibrating would cost me a mint...when I tried looking for the output shaft gear (like my 94 Ranger had and I changed when I upped my tires), I found nothing...there was not a hole in the casting where the old cable came out.

Here's what I found:

The 1998-2000 Rangers are not equipped with a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) receives vehicle speed information from the antilock brake system rear wheel speed sensor.

Your tech was right, for your '98, and I was thinking my 2020 Ranger was the same. That was why I asked which wheel it was reading from. Our newer Rangers get their raw speed signal from the OSS (Output Shaft Speed) sensor in the transmission housing as Ranger Pride said (also see Ranger Rocks post above). The OSS sensor is a magnetic pickup that provides transmission output shaft rotation speed information to the PCM where it is corrected for tire diameter and axle ratio.
