Outstanding! As long as we get it done, that's what counts.
  2. Eagle Mountain FX4

I don't know why your truck feels that way. Maybe the dealership can give you an answer.
  3. Eagle Mountain FX4

No, I didn't. I did lose about .5-1 mpg. But I only went up one size, to LT265/70R17/C tires.

Many here say the Livernois tunes work well, as does the Ford Performance Power Pack flash. The flash will add horsepower and torque, which will help. If a much larger tire size is installed, there's no substitute for lower gearing.
  5. Eagle Mountain FX4

No. All this does is calibrate the speedometer and allows you to enter a new gear ratio (if you actually, physically changed the gearing) to help with the calibration. With the calibration, transmission shift points may be improved, but it's always best to change to lower gears if tire size is...

    It's Part #742502

My speedometer was reading slower after the tire change. You plug the programmer into the OBD port under the dash and follow the instructions on the programmer's screen by hitting "Y", "N", and up or down keys. It will tell you to turn the key from Run to Off a couple of times, etc. It's very...

From the factory the Ranger's speedometer was correct, but after installing new tires and wheels it was reading slow. After having bad experiences with past projects trying to modify the ECM by altering lines of code, I decided not to try it this time and get this Hypertech Speedometer...

3/32" less backspacing, but essentially the same. Make sure when you mount the spacers your OEM wheel studs aren't protruding from them.
  10. Speedometer Sensor

Here's what I found: The 1998-2000 Rangers are not equipped with a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) receives vehicle speed information from the antilock brake system rear wheel speed sensor. Your tech was right, for your '98, and I was thinking my 2020 Ranger...
  11. Speedometer Sensor

Thanks for taking the time to find this information! I had only searched for the Ranger.
  12. Eagle Mountain FX4

Congratulations on your new truck that will be in your hands soon. I have a number of things to do to mine and I'll be posting here. Thanks!
  13. Speedometer Sensor

Older Jeeps had a speedo drive or (later) vehicle speed sensor on the transfer case. I think (but could be wrong) Rangers take it off a wheel. I did a search, too, and could find nothing. If I don't get the Ford Performance tune, I'd rather program the speedometer using the Hypertech...
  14. Speedometer Sensor

I was wondering if Rangers used just the front or rear sensors for the speedometer. When measuring actual tire diameter to set up a speedometer programmer, I like to measure the tire where the sensor reading is taken from. The front tire's static loaded radius is less than the rear because of...
  15. Speedometer Sensor

Does the 2019+ Ranger's speedometer sensor pickup read off the front or rear wheels? Thanks!

Some thoughts on tires -- The Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tires that come stock on the Ranger FX4 are among the quietest and smoothest tires I've ever used. Unfortunately, I haven't driven on Hankooks long enough to test their mileage potential because, when compared to other all-terrain tires...
  17. Eagle Mountain FX4

Thanks! There's no rubbing at all - full lock either direction, in reverse, or compressed. The 265/70R17's 10.4" section width is the same as the OEM 265/65R17 tire's. There's an additional .9" clearance to the knuckles using the Icon wheels vs OEM. I can easily fit (almost) three fingers...
  18. Eagle Mountain FX4

Nothing new, just Fox and Icon parts are both delayed eight to ten weeks.
  19. Eagle Mountain FX4

Thanks! I write too fast and forget to check what I wrote. It's repaired now in my post and was supposed to say, ". . . but they will be if I jump to 285/70R17s in the future."
  20. Eagle Mountain FX4

Here's before and after shots, as well as a look at the back. The truck has no lift and is OE except for the Fabtech Intrusion Beam Kit. Those were probably not needed with the 265/70R17 tires, but they will be if I jump to 285/70R17s in the future. I purchased four Motorcraft 315MHz TPMS...
