Two Totally Useless Features As They Came From the Factory

Deleted member 1634

ok, i'm in on this whinefest....

why dont we have automatic adjusting tire pressures?
why is my auto climate control not also auto climate controlling my seat at well
why dont the damn doors know when i need out ,or in, and just automatically open?
why cant we have auto 4wd
why cant my windows be made like my dads old glasses and automatically adjust to the brightness outside

why doesnt my tailgate slowly drop instead of hitting with a thump everytime?

oh wait i know why, because Ford built a product and offered it to us for sale at a price they determined to be a fair value. it was up to us if we wanted to buy it and at that price for what it offered.

thank god for aftermarket suppliers who see an opening in the market and fill the void.
if the aftermarket people arent jumping on a solution or a product, then they're on the same page as Ford and the markets need for it just wasnt there.
You mean people don't still have the transition lenses in their glasses? haha I really love that feature on my glasses! But the more I think about it, the less people I see out in the world with them.

As far as the auto 4WD, that would actually be a really nice option, basically just for the winter though. If they offered it, I would probably get it, but since they don't, whatever, I'll survive.

That's what I wanted, a low option model with 4x4, tow package, and locking diff. My wife vetoed the low option model, I think she was worried (probably right) that I'd get annoyed and want to trade up.
Same. I definitely would've survived just fine with an XL. But the wife wanted the heated seats, and honestly, after a winter of use, I'm glad we went with it. It's just money after all, so who cares. haha

Periodically I'd open the sliding rear window on my '00 S/Cab to carry longer items, resting them on the dash, I don't dare do this with my '20 , unless it's a 1x2 length of balsa...

I suppose in New Hampshire that is very feasible, however, here in the desert of the West Texas oil fields, we can go from having a late winter snowfall to melting the snow in 85 degree heat the very next day. We don't have many of those "not quite AC weather" days.
Here in the 50th state we have a saying "lucky you live Hawaii". The temperature here in urban Honolulu very rarely dips below 50, and I've never seen it go above 100 degrees, year round.

Every vehicle I ever owned that has/had this feature still allows the driver to control the windows while still disabling the switches in the back seats.
Different vehicles obviously are designed differently. Now that we've clearly established that I'm not sure what benefit there is in adding more data points that confirm that there isn't a single way to do things. ?‍♂

I have some that I use exclusively for outdoor activities, but they don't work at all in a car. I'd guess that for most people, especially if they only have one pair, driving is one of the top times that sunglasses are required so they need a different solution.

They certainly don't work in the car, but I have a set of clip-ons for them that I just leave in the car as my solution. A lot cheaper than a second set of glasses and that way I can have my open-air transitions and closed-air sunglasses. I was just surprised to hear that I am apparently in the minority with my transitions. haha

Let me start out by saying I absolutely LOVE my Ranger Lariat! I won’t discuss here the things I wish it had that were not available on even the top of the line Ranger. HOWEVER, there are two features it DOES have that are pretty much useless as they came out from the factory.
  1. The Fold-in Mirrors – Why would they design these to where the switch has to be ON for the mirror button to have power? By the time I remember to fold them in, it’s after the switch is already off, and I am out of the truck. I can’t even open the door and reach in to push the button to fold them in. Ideally, this should have been designed with an option to fold them in by default every time the switch is turned off. Either way, the button should be full time powered, even with the ignition off.
  2. The Sliding Back Window – After driving a Sport Trac for 13 years with a wide, full opening top to bottom electric window, that could be opened or closed while going down the highway, this tiny, square, manually sliding window, is useless to me. I don’t foresee a time when I will ever be driving down the interstate and decide I want to open it, pull over to the side of the road, get out, get in the back seat, and open the window manually. This window should have been designed with the convenience of an electric switch to be used from the driver’s seat.
I could write multiple pages on what I LIKE about my Ranger, but, after driving it for a month, these are about the only two things that I could find that are REAL shortcomings in my opinion. Thanks for the opportunity to have a place to vent!
I don't have the sliding window but really wish I do. Mainly for 1 reason and that is to stick fishing poles through.

I don't like the position of the cupholders. Also the storage bin is small

All depends on what you fold the mirrors for - can't really get in my garage without folding them so its a habit, not sure where I would put the switch probably somewhere you could see it. A habit kind of like manually shutting off the auto stop/start :)

I can get into my garage just fine, but would like to have them fold in when I lock and park it in a parking lot at a store or airport, where the spaces are much too small. AND AMEN on manually disabling the auto start/stop. That is an extremely annoying function that in my opinion is totally useless. I drive around town in Sport mode most of the time just because that feature doesn't turn on in Sport Mode.

My garage is 18' wide X 23 feet deep. We can both park and walk around our vehicles.
Not a whole lot of depth on the sides. maybe 1.5" from the end of the garage to the wall. I fold the mirrors makes it much easier to walk around the vehicles. Once I clear the garage door on the way out I unfold them. We both back in the garage we have a long driveway and it's easier to see cars coming by. Plus if I parked nose in I wouldn't have room to drop my tailgate without opening the garage. Back in so I could use the tailgate as a work surface sometimes

Sounds like someone needs a Ridgeline. LOL I'm not kidding I'm actually looking at them I don't like anything about the 2022 Ranger style.

I agree. The front seat cup holders are a little too far towards the rear for convenient use.
I have the seat all the way back and can't imagine how difficult it is for someone with the seat forward to reach a cup in the rear most holder position
