Hello, just purchased my Ranger, has 300 miles on it and has stopped the hard breaking when coming to a stop but one thing I have a question about. During take off it has a huge hesitation, almost like letting a clutch out very slowely, after it goes to 2nd gear it will take off like a rocket, tried sport mode and tow mode and has it with both. It this something that will go away with time or do I need to take to the dealer?

Not sure why I put Take has hesitation other than looking a fool for my first post.

If you meant from a dead stop could it be the auto stop/start? If thats still enabled it would have a pause while the engine restarted then take off.
If thats not what you mean it could also still be the transmission is still learning and takes some time/miles for the to be complete.

I tried auto start stop off, tow mode and sport and its still there.

What is a "huge hesitation"? Many seconds? How long in a unit of time does it take? There is some hesitation with all of these trucks, I think because of computer control (but I could be wrong), but it's only a fraction of a second.

I'm also wondering if from your wording your almost saying that 1st gear is luggy and not that powerful. That's also fairly normal. Usually it shifts out of 1st gear pretty quick, within the first few mph. Unless you're stomping on it every time, then it'll want to hold for longer to keep the revs up.

If I take off gently or mash the throttle its entire first gear. 1-3 seconds however long it takes to find second, it will go but almost feels like slipping, soon as it hits second and will grip and go. I went ahead and called dealer and setup a time to look at it just to be safe. Rather if its slipping catch it early.

I've read a few trans complaints on here but most were the issue with stopping which mine finally stopped.

Only thing I haven't tried and just thought of is manually shifting it, or taking off in second to see if it stops.

I think something like that will probably work itself out over the break in period, but you're right to take it in and make sure either way. If nothing else, it'll make you feel better about your purchase.

if you're mashing the silly pedal....its likely your traction control keeping you from spinning the tires.
Does it at light or heavy throttle, heavy throttle it passes faster. Light throttle it drags it out. I really think its something odd with first gear. I will try manually shifting it later when I drive it to see if I can start in 2nd.

Do you mean going into 2nd gear or do you mean an upshift out of 1st? During normal acceleration it should skip 2nd and go straight from 1 to 3. If you're indeed going through 2nd, make sure to bring that up to the dealer, as it's not normal.

I'm not seeing my gears displayed when it shifts, Its when its shifting from first. Only time I have a gear display is if I put it in sport and toggle a gear. My cluster is the one with the speed and tach, and digital display in the middle.

When in "D", if you press the +/- button on the shifter it will start displaying the gear on your display.

Ty, I haven't got to drive it other than a few long trips so far. I'll check it tonight.

I drove another 250 miles yesterday and monitored the shift points. My trans under heavy load will do a 1-2-3 shift but for most part does the skip shift. During the last 2 stops I turned the truck off and came back from an errand, I guess it finally learned what it was doing and is shifting correctly now. Not sure if sitting on the lot for so many months with no miles or if indeed the trans has to learn and it took that long but everything is finally normal.

Thank you to everyone who has chimed in.

Sooooooooooooooooooo.......... Welcome to turbo lag...... This is the unfortunate truth for any vehicle with a turbo. My 280ZX does the same thing and it has a manual transmission so it takes a moment to get things going. Before I got the Livernois tune it still had some lag when preloading the torque converter(hold the gas and break at the same time) but wasn't bad. After I got the Livernois tune it did way better with reloading, as for normal takeoff it still has that delay.

My 15 f450 is the same way. From a stop there’s no power but once it hits second, torque for days
