So I got a cool hitch cover that lights up .. problem is this causes the truck to think it’s towing and disabled backup sensors and other things . Anyway around this or am I stuck not being able to hook up the light ?

Hi Adam,

Set your trailer length to 3ft...

Ok thanks .. I did that and it seems to help with the side mirror alerts but still disabled the backup sensors . I will try again .

Seems to be a common issue with any lighting that plugs into the trailer connector, which I'm assuming your light does. Looks like if the truck sees a load on the tail/marker circuit it disables the rear sensors. People putting on rear light bars have the same issue, several threads on that. Only solution I've seen is adding an isolation module into the tail light harness to bypass the trailer module. Lot of work for hitch light.

Not sure there is a way. I have rear rack lights tied to my trailer harness behind the rear bumper and it is just something I have learned to deal with. I originally had the lights wired directly to the tail-lights harness, but that kept causing some odd random anomalies due to th sensitivity of electrical systems now a days.
