Hi Paul,

I got it through Varsity Ford, part number VKB3Z-19168-A. Other Dealerships were raping the customer on shipping. Varsity Ford was fairly priced on shipping. Probably like the DeeZee tailgate damper as McGard is not selling aftermarket at this time...IMO...

Thanks for the info and more for the quick reply!

I know there is a “what did you get” thread but I figured we could start a what did you do to your Ranger today thread because I have enjoyed them on other forums...

so I’ll start off with this...

I got some metallic gray vinyl off amazon to try and match the factory Magnetic gray so I could wrap some pieces on the interior. So for a little test I did the door trim below the window switches to see how i like it. I’m happy with how it turned out, it’s not a perfect match (little light) but I think it looks good and breaks up all the black on the door.

What do you guys think?

Rape indeed, the problem is exacerbated for me because I live in Hawaii.
I ordered some items from Tasca online yesterday, their shipping rates are a whole lot more palatable and their part prices are competitive with the "rapist".

I'm thinking of ordering some of these parts and maybe even buying an extended warranty. I just want to make sure there's not more than one Varsity Ford. I'd hate to make a major mistake and get taken to the cleaners.

Ed,
Look no further than Flood Ford for a Ford extended warranty plan, I bought a plan from them and supposedly they sell them at cost plus $100.
My selling dealer (Cutter Ford) here in Honolulu could not touch Flood's prices.

Ordered a SCT tunner today. It was cheap enough and will serve my purpose if it does as advertised on a 93 octane tune for $399.00.

Product Benefits:
  • 59 HP & 67 ft/lbs torque increase
  • Speedometer correction for oversized tires
  • Built-In Wi-Fi Allows Updates via the Cloud
  • Data Logging and Monitoring of Critical Engine Parameters
  • Read and Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes
  • Flash and Go Convenient Tuning
  • Store up to 10 Custom Tunes

Impressive figures, but tell me this, what, if any affect does it have on your factory warranty?

Ford will void the warranty if Ford figures out you put a tune on that resulted in a warranty issue that can be tied to the tune.

So putting a tune on the vehicle pretty much will void any engine related warranty issue as well as transmission.

If the mod causes the problem in most cases it voids the warranty...(see mustang Ecoboost forum)

Exactly as I suspected, this is an issue many aftermarket vendors conveniently "forget" to tell you.

Only if ford determines that ”any type of mod” caused the problem.

At some point, there will be a mod that will be a bad investment and make your vehicle less valuable in the future. No matter how much you spend, it really does not have the effect you think it will have, unless you are trying to keep up with the "other guy".

Insurance companies do not have to pay out what you think its worth, and worse, they dont have to pay at all, if it compromised the factory standards. Remember that when they insure you, they only cover what rolled out of the factory, and will look for any reason NOT to pay you.

To protect your investment, you need to declare what you added to your vehicle, which in most cases, to keep premiums low, most don't mention anything on their policy.
