Hauling lumber and such.

5th gen Ranger owners can't lay 4x8 sheets flat on the bed of the truck between the wheel wells. So we end up leaving the tail gate up and let the 4 x 8 sheets lay on the tailgate or let it lay crooked, one side on the wheel well and one side on the floor. That might be fine for a couple pieces, but what if you want to haul a lot of 4 x 8 sheets? The ideal way is to haul them flat. "The Rack" provides that flat surface that is slightly above the wheel wells. The 4 x 8 sheets lay flat and are supported for their entire length. "The Rack" has (12) tie down points to securely hold the sheets.

Even when you're hauling 2x4's, 4x4's, etc. the factory tie downs pretty much suck... they are to high and there aren't enough of them.

Seems like every time we go to Home Depot for lumber we are always also buying a shopping cart full of screws, brackets, etc. All that stuff gets thrown inside the truck. "The Rack" allows you to stow all that stuff in the back.. securely.

Part of the reason is we live about 90 minutes from the closest big box store. And the journey takes us over mountain passes and winding mountain roads. Often times on slick roads.
Entirely clever and logical, with my '00 Ranger I would buy 2 2x4x8's in addition to maybe the 5 or 6 3/4" plywood sheets, rest the 2x4's on the gate then stack the plywood on top. If the load was light and long, such as ABS/PVC pipe etc. I'd open the sliding rear window and rest the material on the dash of my '00, I don't dare so this with my '20, the material would be resting on glass.
Of course, this limits the amount of plywood you can buy in one HD store visit, coincidentally, there is a Lowes right next door.
Both are 15 minutes away from where I live, I'm usually there at 5 am, when they open for business.

Ninety minutes huh? Hope you make a good shopping list bro...lol!

looking at my receipts ... all the things I've done to date to my ranger have totaled $2910.20 with no end in sight.
At some point, one has to weigh the value for resale down the road. Another thing to consider is what would void a warranty and if the truck is totalled or stolen, would you be reimbursed for the loss plus the upgrades. Also, if you have the bare bones lower version of a ranger, the vin number is still going to say its just that, and not the raptor mod you worked hard to build. The value is what rolled out of the factory when its for insurance purposes, minus the usual.

I bought the 2020 Lariat and only doing mods that aren't going to break the bank. I added the retrax tonneau cover, grill lights, and hitch with step. Not much to tweak after that. Maybe I will add the cab fairing, but at $350 thats for a much later project. I figure in about 5 to 7 yrs, I can trade it in, or pass it on to my son if he wants it. In that time, who knows what will roll off the factory and if it can hover like a DeLorean.

Today I removed the front air dam (the plow) and painted the tow hooks red. The front air dam was not too terrible to take off (not worse than my old Colorado where Chevy decided to mount it with the screws facing up and not accessible from the bottom)...this one was a piece of cake. Only three bolts were a bit difficult to get to (had to loosen the front facia to get access to them). All in all..I'm very pleased with the look of no air dam and the red hooks.

So, the back part is removable ... is it connected somehow when in use?
I think he just changes out the 2 divider boards that run fore and aft for longer ones. At least that's my guess.

Which one did you get? I don't see the 2019 Ranger on their site.
Hi Paul,

I got it through Varsity Ford, part number VKB3Z-19168-A. Other Dealerships were raping the customer on shipping. Varsity Ford was fairly priced on shipping. Probably like the DeeZee tailgate damper as McGard is not selling aftermarket at this time...IMO...

Best,
