That and the fact that the BBB doesn’t have anywhere near the weight it did decades ago. BBB sticker on the door of a business is very 1980-ish.

There are a gazillion ways to review a business in our modern world. If I owned a business today would I pay to be a BBB member? Nope. Would I worry too much when BBB contacted me to basically halfass mediate a complaint? Nope.
Yes, if you belong to the BBB now it just means that you agree to have them mediate any customer disputes. There isn't even a phone number to call any more, you just submit it online.
As mentioned earlier, I was on the receiving end of a complaint in my previous career but I was easily able to prove that we did nothing wrong.
Not long after that I was on the other side and reported Comcast to them. We had switched from DirectTV to Comcast but the cable boxes kept crapping out about every six weeks. Customer service said they red-flagged my account for returning so many boxes. FU, if your boxes worked I wouldn't be returning them. Reported them to the BBB and in a week or two a VP of Comcast called me, I was nice, but explained that they kept giving me "reconditioned" cable boxes. How about if you try sending me brand new ones? She agreed, I got brand new boxes FedEx'd to my house, and didn't have another problem.
