Only certain specs of the AT4w have the 3 ply sidewall, the SLs don't. If it doesn't say "Duraspec" on the sidewall it's not 3 ply. I would absolutely not go with an SL tire if you do any offroading with rocky terrain.
Oof yeah my bad, I misread the Falken website.
I still dont think this will be a problem for the OP. He said himself he just drives on fire roads, maybe a little technical trail occasionally.

Here is a great video on SL vs LT. I carry plug kits for my SL tires, yet to use them. I do trails in Colorado so very rocky trails. LT's just arnt worth it in my opinion unless you are offroading with maximum payload and or towing.

Yup. I had a similar experience. Standard load, 2 ply sidewalls, plenty of rocks, root balls, and brush with no tears or punctures for a couple years. Only have LTs now because it was the only option for the size and model tire I wanted.

Didn't see any mention of xl wildpeak , they were available in the lariat size in the at3, I currently use them. Slightly heavier than sl.

I got a little confused there too.

Awesome insight, thanks!

I didn't know this was an option. I can't find the XL version in the stock Tremor size of 265/70R17. Are you running a different size? If so what size and how is the fitment?

I'm nearing 60,000 miles on my 2021 XLT Tremor. The stock General Grabber A/Tx tires that came from factory are ready to be replaced.

After hours and hours of research I am suffering from analysis paralysis. $1,200-$1,500 is a lot of money to spend and I want to make the best decision I can.

I drive 12,000 - 15,000 miles a year. Lots of 80+mph interstate driving. In the summer I am off road on the weekends, mainly on fire roads, nothing super crazy, but I sometimes find myself on a more technical trail getting to a campsite. In the summer I also tow a 4 seat rzr frequently. With the aluminum trailer, that comes to about 3500lbs plus all the camping gear and 2 to 4 adults in the cab. In the winter I deal with icy roads and I often beat the plows out in the morning. The small Idaho town I live in doesn't plow all of the city streets so I find myself either blazing a path in fresh snow, of driving on compacted and icy snow a few days after a storm.

All that being said, in your experience is the Falken Wildpeak A/T4W a good fit, anyone have lots of miles on those? I also noticed that they offer an LT version of that tire. Is that something I need, or should I stick the standard rating?

I appreciate any insight that can be given.
I went with wildpeaks because they’re snow rated tires. During the winters we get lots of snow and ice where we live. They handle exceptionally well in those conditions. During the winter, I routinely drive through 2+ feet of snow and have never had to chain up since getting these tires. They also handle very well during summer months. I don’t do any serious offroading with my truck but from the trails I’ve been on, I can also say that they handle sand and gravel well too. They ride quiet for an AT tire. The Goodyear wranglers I had were loud and annoying on the highway.

One thing I did notice after putting wildpeaks on my truck was the difference in acceleration. Maybe it was a lack of attention on my part, but I ended up buying the load range E tires, which I believe are the heavier duty ones. Probably way too excessive for the Ranger, seeing as how those tires are capable of carrying much more than the Ranger can even haul.

I put the same set of tires on the wife’s Ranger, except I made sure they were the LT version. Her truck drives much better than mine and doesn’t have the lag in acceleration. Hers are also a size smaller than mine in diameter so that might have something to do with it. I’m running 33s and her are 32s. My Ranger is lifted 3.5” and hers has a 2” leveling kit.

Overall, I’ve been extremely satisfied with the performance of these tires and really don’t have anything negative to say about them. If I’m not mistaken, they also come with a 60,000 mile tread warranty. At least where I bought them from online, they did. I’ll definitely buy these tires again when it’s time for a new set, except I’ll pay attention to what load range I’m getting.

What helped me make the final decision was the fact that these tires are 3 peak snow rated, came with a good warranty, and didn’t break the bank when it came to comparing prices with other snow/ice rated tires.

My size was the lariat stock 18" 265 60 or maybe 65.

I just went back and looked at my order from Discount Tire. Sure enough, mine were XLs. Did not remember that.

Not sure how they even determine SL vs XL, because another a size right next to mine has the same weight rating, but is SL instead of XL.

I put AT3Ws on my Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Did multiple trails in Moab and Sedona, also a large section of Washington BDR and never felt at risk even airing down to 15psi. Plus, they were just killer in snow, slush and ice. If the 4W is equal to the 3W, I wouldn't hesitate. In fact I am a couple thousand from pulling the trigger on a set for my Tremor...and I am pulling a 6k travel trailer.
