Here in the People's Republic of Washington there's no way I could try to shoot this thing!! I'd end up in jail!!

Good idea about the rat poison. On my way to Lowe's .... !!

Thanks!!

Ken
If you use peanut butter make sure they are not where a dog can get to them. Rats will eat them with out it.

Please don't use poison as this is often what kills collaterally, wildlife. The body of poisoned animals kill birds, house pets when they find these carcasses.
Just opened my hood and found this mess ...

Can't remember the last time I checked under the hood, but probably only a few days!! I refilled the washer fluid about a week ago and did not see this!!

Any idea how to kill/prevent what ever is doing this?

My local Fred and seed store has poisoned pnuts. That’ll do the trick. Or, poisoned corn kernels.

This happened to mine as well, although they didn't eat as much of it. I started to suspect this was the reason behind Ford discontinuing these - they're too delicious.

I started spraying Grandpa Gus mint spray every few weeks and that seems to have stopped the issue.

honestly I wouldn't trust anything I could get there if I wanted targeted extermination. the types of things they sell will kill EVERYTHING, oftentimes.

my wife is a veterinarian and has seen a TON of pets poisoned by the kinds of products people get at the local feed and seed to deal with unwanted pests.

The same happened to me.
I got squirrels damaging my home but also my trucks. They also damaged my gas tank. Drove around with open gas fumes. If I were you Id check other parts of the truck for damage.

Any idea whether that Hz-range would affect dogs, cats, etc? It's an interesting idea, but I wouldn't want to trade off gnawing rodents for howling felines & canines, not to mention their screeching owners.

I don't know what range annoys dogs. But it says it's between 25000Hz to 50000Hz

According to this Wikipedia article on dog whistles, they operate right in that same frequency range, so I'm not sure how pet-friendly this device would be. Interesting concept, but I'd have to dig into that a little deeper before pulling the trigger; that and the fact that its lowest operating temp may not be low enough for winters around here, although depending on how easy the installation is, I suppose that I could remove it in the winter - the rodents are all napping anyway.

i tried something similar to that in the attic for squirrels. it seems like it was more of a disco invite for them than a deterrent.

Ouch! $1700 for the small grid, $2000 for the SUV size grid.

I'm thinking a DIY engine grid...the science can't be that tough...I remember my dad built an electric grid to kill rats in our house...don't ask me where we lived lol...
