Home appliances are becoming more wifi/iot enabled. My toothbrush, microwave, stove, dishwasher, washer, dryer, HVAC, security system, security cameras, garage door opener all have an ability to be controlled or monitored through your WIFI. There are many other home appliances that do this too like light bulbs.

Personally, I don't want Joe Biden to know what time I brush my teeth or when I wash my underwear so I don't enable this feature on anything. But if I did, I would get a cheap tablet to make into a "Home Automation Center" maybe two and mount one in the kitchen or family room and one near the bed. Its easier han using it with your phone due to the slightly larger screen and you aren't hogging up phone space with this stuff.

Fire tablets don't have built-in GPS capability, but can use an external GPS source for location. Processing power is limited, so I wouldn't expect anything great from it. Fire tablets are designed for easy access to Amazon's digital media offerings, and they do this at a relatively low cost. I'm typing this on the latest Fire HD 8, with Google Play installed. Fire OS is based on an older version of Android, which will not run a lot of the newest apps that are on my Pixel 4a phone.

I built a house last year and bought the “smart home package”. Pretty neat stuff. I have a tablet mounted in the kitchen and master. But Alexa basically controls everything. Which is great with Alexa + Ford Pass (to relate this back to the Ranger).

Cool, but a little scary.

I hear ya! I used to have Nest equipment but when Google bought them and pretty much forced me to use their service is when I ripped it all out. The setup I have now is part of my home internal internet or intranet. UniFi equipment of Video doorbells, high def motion triggered cameras, wifi are all stored here. No cloud no outside storage. Forget about Alexa or Google assistant. Even the camera on my TV is blacked out. Less they all know about me and my family the better. Someday the chickens will come home to roost on this one and my guess is lots of jaws are going to drop!

I will never get Alexa or anything from Google! My cameras are a commercial grade from LTS and have the best might vision I've ever seen. How many times have you seen screen shots from businesses or homes where they're looking for someone and the picture is all grainy? Mine are crystal clear and I have a 2TB HD and can add up to 12 cameras on this one. The measure of security it they add is A+ too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think OFC Ranger was looking for ideas to add the tablet to his Ranger. I have a Torque app on my phone that has a bunch of neat features that works off of a Bluetooth module plugged into the OBD Port but not sure if that would work with your tablet.
