Shortly after buying my ranger 2020 I also bought a bidirectional scanner. While playing with it and not knowing what the hell I was doing, I told it to do a total reset. Now everything seems ok, but i was wondering what I can tune with it. My steering is a little sensitive and the transmission revs up a lot. Can either of these be modified with the scanner.

The scanner is a Foxwell NT 710

TIA

Depending on the level of Software loaded which is authorized by Ford, you can do everything the Ford FDRS does, but there are exceptions.
The PCM software for Reflash this takes the correct authorization of the software and an expensive cable as the cable itself is a software based, I think the aftermarket cable runs about $550.00, and the Ford VCM 3 runs about $2,000.
I do not have the cable for reflash, but I can reset the Adaptive Learning Tables for the Transmission and a few others

Bi-Directional Control allows you to command things (On-Off) / (Open-Closed) while performing troubleshooting of the systems, such as Open the EGR Valve or Evap Purge Valve etc.
Bi-Direction control and a better Live Data PID view and setup is how these types of scanners differ from Forscan, however unlike Forscan you are unable to alter settings such as (Bambi-Mode) which even Ford (FDRS) will not allow. This is where Forscan SHINES over scanners.

As far as your Trans (shifting) - You may have a Tab for Service Functions - Reset Adaptive Learning - this is exactly what a dealer will do anyway.
and if you have a PSCM tab - you can try a PSCM Self-Test (Reset)- scanners vary with the amount of control you get.

I have a more expensive scanner Autel MS906TS (1500.00) and still sometimes feel it is limited but it closely matches exact OEM (Ford-FDRS), I have considered upgrading my scanner again, as I am on Scanner #3 now since 2001 when I bought my first one for personal use.
Snap-On Scanners are by far the best but are also incredibly expensive if not using in a shop environment where you can recoup the cost.

So, in closing if you want a true scanner it's going to cost, unfortunately the lower end scanners give you SOME control but not FULL control that would match what the dealer can do, and the descriptions of the scanners are vague on EXACT control and features you have access to as these are all dependent on each Make & Model and Year so you will have to hook it up and just play with it and see what control and options you have on it.
