I will say getting a XLT tremor a year ago for 38K was as cheap as anyone could have gotten one. I thought the base price was like 42K? Was it a negotiation or was that advertised price? Good work on that.
It was right before the chip shortage got rid of rebates and incentives. I got a $750 college graduate rebate with $4k off MSRP as their volume incentive.

It's ridiculous that they're totaling these trucks and it makes me think there's something else going on. My family has been in the body shop business for 50 plus years and I've never seen or heard of full frame vehicles getting written off by insurance companies like some of the ones we've seen on this forum. I can't wonder if some adjusters aren't making side deals with shops due to the value of these trucks. Before Illinois came up with specific junk titles for totaled cars, it was a common scam for adjusters to write off a vehicle, let a shop buy it on the cheap, the shop repaired it, flipped it, and then split the $ with the adjuster.
Yeah the trick is for the owner to buy it back and repair it instead. But not everyone can do that.

One time I had a Trans Am get written off for a bs accident, 100% other driver's fault. I bought it back and my Dad and I repaired it together...with parts I got at a discount because my cousin was working for GM at the time! I made a ton of money and got my car back too.

They were going to section it, but I told them I wanted a full frame and not one that was cut in half and welded back together since it was such a new vehicle.
With you there. I might have tolerated a frame straightening, but not a slice-n-weld. (Especially because one of the primary chores of mine is towing)

Good luck on a replacement. That's the thing that scares me these days. My attitude used to be that if mine got bent enough, I'd just replace it. But that's not so easy right now, both economically or practically.
