I’m just curious if the amount of puddling I saw during rain shower is normal. I hear guys say there tonneau is tight or minimal water gets through.

I took saw pictures of my truck after it was sitting level in a steady rain shower for ~16 hours.

How much would your tonneau allow?

It looks like quite a bit is coming in around the tailgate. I have an Extang Xceed. I got a LOT of water around the tailgate using a touchless car wash. I added a tailgate seal and that cut it to a few drops.

Don't know about just sitting in heavy rain. Mine stays completely dry and we had heavy, wind driven rain.

Are you sure it's tight to the tailgate? When I installed mine I fastened it loosely, closed the tailgate and made sure it was pulled back tight. Between the cover and seal my tailgate takes some extra effort to close.

BTW - Although I've lived in Maryland for over 30 years I'm an original PA fat boy. Grew up in Wayne County, Northeast PA.

Thanks for the thoughts on my tonneau. When it dries up and warms up I will re-adjust it. I do have to close the tailgate hard and when folded up it lands in the right spot against the window. I also have a couple square foam pieces that I just found out belong in the front corners (window side).

that’s cool you are more or less local. I just ordered a Ranger5g.com sticker for my rear window. If you see a lightning blue Ranger with that Sticker it may be me.

If I used my home state for my online user name I’d be IA Fatboy. I am PA Fatboy all over the car/truck forums for new Mustangs, classic Mustangs, here and a few others. Makes it easy to remember. Different pw’s though! It started on a Harley Forum. I have a 2003 100th anniv Fatboy painted in the silver and black.

Yes, put the foam blocks in the front. You should look into some Extang MaxSeal For the tailgate. My MX4 is pretty dry. Not perfect but good enough.

I'd drill holes in those lower plugs and route the drains there. If you also have the tailgate sealed it will cause backup like that. Had that on mine.

I didn’t notice your drain routing. Cut them off and put them in the lower hole to the right and left.

Thanks all! I had to order a new 7/8 drill bit. When I went to grab it to drill a couple holes in the rubber plugs, of course that spot in my drill bit kit was empty. Those rubber plugs got Line-x’ed in.

I will re-adjust it, fix the drain tubes and get a tailgate seal to button it up a bit more.

Get yourself some stepper bits... As for the tailgate seal, mine caused more leaks because I couldn't get them right and water got in from the tracks... anyway, just drill through the linex. It won't hurt it. It might just pop off the plug a bit. I left the rubber in.

Mine has the factory spray liner. I (carefully) cut around the plugs with a utility knife and took them out to drill. Flexing them a bit the liner popped off.

I left them in and drilled. Why remove? Mine are still spray coating and now have a hole for the hose and are still nicely sealed.
