Warning ICON bump stops

So recently (1 week ago) I put on some icon 2.0 that I did buy used and a brand new icon bump stops kit to improve the rear end performance of the truck. Keep in mind according to icon this set up should work well since they sell it in there stage 3 kit. Today was the first true off road test and it was 10x more compliant in the rear. At least till it wasn’t. After getting a big hit the rear end bucked and bottomed out. I then heard a loud clank and slammed on the brakes. I got out the truck to see both rear shocks mangled. I assume the addition up travel doesn’t work with stock leafs due to extra top end compression. This should be advertised but it wasn’t. I ended up driving home by removing g the lower shock bolt. It was essentially just riding with leaf springs. Wouldn’t recommend as it’s very sketchy.

Damn sorry to hear about the troubles.. basically the bump stops are too short? And stock springs too weak?
And the pressure from the shock being fully compressed rapidly blew the shock up
(Sorry I’m fairly new to the off road suspension details.).
Would that have happened with the stock length bump stops isolating the weaker springs as the issue?

Wouldn't have been pressure, it would have been the shock rod punching out through the shock body. Would ruin both ends at once.

I don’t think it really had anything to do with the springs, I was definitely pushing her hard. I just assume that either the shocks aren’t designed to be used with the additional uptravel of the new or they weren’t long enough to compensate for full droop travel.

Im surprised by that. I have cut my bump stops in half to mimic the size of those. I have been that way for 90k. And I will admit I have gone 4 wheels in the air before.

What model number rear shocks are those? Is there a chance the sent you longer ones on accident, made for a lift?

And this is simply another reason to stay away from ICON. My thoughts on what happened was a combination of both the shorter bumpstops(Ford has them at a certain length for a reason) and the shocks you put on. I know many claim that ICON is supposed to be amazing, but in reality are junk. If you go on their website, you will find 7 stages for suspension. There is no need for stages when it comes to suspension. What is needed is a combination of different Shocks, Struts and Springs for different height and load carrying.

I think I’m going to give them a call later because something with there design clearly isn’t within specs of the shocks they are selling. Both of them ruptured after one big hit is not justified.

Im starting the think the same thing. I haven’t had any issues with the front 2.5s but now I’m a little worried because of what just happened. Im probably going to get king 2.5s for the rear so she can boogie.
