Sadly the old school mechanics that could actually trouble shoot a problem are no more. It's replace this, replace that part until the problem is gone.

The converstaion goes like this:

"Do ya know what caused the problem"? "Sorry, we replaced so many things I don't know which one fixed it." :explode:

My 2022 Tremor is at the dealer now for two weeks. I was told that the VIN of my vehicle matches a certain range of other VINS that needed to have the front CV axles replaced and was under a new bulletin that came out and parts would arrive in two days or so. The dealer is doing what they can. I provided them an NVH analysis from an app that I downloaded so hopefully that provided some guidance. My vibrations was being noticed mostly from 50+ mph. Also, the dealer let me test drive 2022 Ranger Lariat and used the NVH app in the process. What a night and day difference. The Lariat was nice and smooth. I’ll attach the results. The first picture is of my truck and the second is the Lariat.

Wow...looks familiar! Exactly familiar, actually.

Do you have any info on the TSB? I'd like to point my soon to be new dealer tomorrow morning to this.

MIBuckeye,

The only information that I received from the dealer was that my VIN and build date, I have to check mine but I know it was March, fell under a new bulletin that just came out for the front axles. I’m supposed to receive a call tomorrow. Once I hear something I’ll let you know.

The front strut spacers may have brought up an issue but not in a way you need to get rid of them. What could have happened is when the alignment was done the Toe was set to 0. How is that a problem you ask? Well when you hop in the truck is will cause the Toe to go out into the negatives. This will result in the tires fighting wich way to go(left and right) and that will give you vibrations in the steering at higher speeds. This is something I discovered after I installed the Old Man EMU suspension on my truck.

Also with the wheel spacers it could be amplifying that effect too. Just something to keep in mind.

As a suggestion have the dealer check the alignment. If its where I feel have them align it with you in it or adjust toe in to 0.04 on both.
Good, info. I had vibration when I'm going above 70mph and go over hump on the freeway like you want to raise your hand in the air. It only happen on 70mph and above. Next service I'll have the dealer check my alignment.

Is that NVH app just use your phone to detect vibration or it comes with sensors? I was reading the review but was not clear.

Well.... the dealer calls me after having the truck for 4 days to tell me that the truck is normal.

They have swapped tires and wheels from a new xlt and the vibration is still there, a vibration they themselves called a "wicked vibration", so they conclude it must be normal. I've asked if they contacted the Ford Hotline, which they have not. So, I've got no choice now than to work through ford directly. Trying to get a Field Service Tech out to look at it myself. The logic astounds me. Bad + no change = normal.

In the mean time, I drive past a beautiful yellow 21 Tremor in a used car lot near home....so I stop and look...it has 1200 miles on it... so I ask if I can drive it... so I do... and...

...the damn thing vibrates like a mother f$%cker!!! It is a lot different than mine, but it shakes at real low speeds then smooths out. Then a little vibration in steering wheel, oscillation, at 65-70...ran my NVH software and I'm comparing it with mine now. I can tell you that it seems a LOT quieter though with the road noise, tire noise, engine noise. It's was super quiet, noticeably quieter.

I'm beginning to think that maybe the dealer is right, that I should expect this thing to feel like shit! If this is the best that it gets. Of course, my money will have to go elsewhere in 11 months when I give this back. I will treat it like a rental, then give it back. I simply cannot understand what is so special about this truck that it cannot ride like any other freaken new truck on the road.

More to come when I get more..

Hi Chris,

Please consider finding another dealer and broom this dealer.... Open up a formal complain with Ford Customer Care....ask for a Field Service Engineer to intervene.

best,
Phil

Yeah. That's already in the works. Already got an appt. at another dealer. Customer care is in the loop and should have a line on a FSE here shortly. Leaving it at this dealer until I get some guidance from the truck division CRC.

i'm not sold on phone apps to diagnose vibrations.
nor can I argue what you feel VS what someone else would feel.

I'm hoping your resolution after customer service steps in that they use proper equipment to diagnose your vibration.
Yeah. That is what I stressed with them today...that I've had to purchase a tool that helps demonstrate and confirm my seat-of-pants symptoms... because the dealer wouldn't... I've driven and torn down enough drivelines to understand this is not normal. I actually trust my feel to diagnose most of my issues more than anything. I too hope that they get this resolved.

Hi RP,

I am in agreement with your assessment! Garbage in is garbage out. Most of my NVH diagnostis had specific placement of accelerometers to record about 8 channels at once which you can overlay to see what prime frequencies are involved. Not that the phone is all bad though...I would place the phone where the the Calibrated Assometer indicates the problem might be...Driver's seat track. Pickup box over the rear axle, Steering column, but likely not top of the dash....way too much hash in my opinion...

Best,
Phil

Ok. Off to the new dealer tomorrow morning at the request of Ford Truck Division. They claim they will have an answer this week. They will be giving me an Expedition to drive. Beats the Ecosport with dealer decals all over it that I've been sporting.

Interestingly..I took out the ol' chassis ears to see if I could hear anything... got a close to the bearing races at each corner and clamped one ear on the differential below the front drive shaft. Everything sounded perfectly quiet EXCEPT the diff, which sounded like a completely trashed bearing...grinding at all ranges....don't have anything to compare to but if I heard that same sound at one of the corners I wouldn't even hesitate to pull the wheel bearing, because the sound is SO obvious. I'll pass on the info to the new tech and let them figure it out.

Got call from dealer #2. Took them 3 hours to call back and tell me the tires are bad. They say that they are cupped and started the ol' rotation questioning. The tires have been off and rotated so many times now that it's silly. So awaiting Ford response. This is always fun.

is there a history of all this work logged for your truck somewhere?

it seems like dealerships are just doing the 10 second Tom

they keep finding the wrong red herring and thinking they got the holy grail. I can just picture them high fiving each other in the shop....Found it...its the tires! lets go for a beer.

Yeah. I fear that too. But if they're gonna put on new tires. Have at it. If it solves the problem so be it. Ford just called and they are addressing it with the dealer. The other dealer balked when I asked them if they would pay for the tires if replacing them wasn't the solution....then they looked elsewhere....it's all a game.
