Yeah, weird that they didn't cover last car to come with ashtray as standard. I know they sell the little ashtrays for cupholders now but I don't think any car comes with a legit ashtray anymore.

Stamped steel , 4 cig grooves... Mom had a little "beanbag " one that stayed put... It had the wavy spring on top to hold the cig... Or doobie in my case .... Had to roll them fat to stay in there though...

There's only one thing on that list that's gone that I miss. That is the small side vent window. It was a great feature to let in a little air and be able to direct it. All the rest I'm glad they're gone.

How many times have you had this happen. lol

Hi Dave,

Back in the days of vent wing windows there was a little known way to get into a locked F Series. The brake master cylinder bail that held the cover on the master cylinder was perfectly bent to slide under the vent window rubber weather stripping and depress the little inside locking handle and the with a twist, open the vent window. Then you could get your arm in to either hit the unlock button or grab the inside door handle, depending on what features were on the truck. So when we needed to open up a truck and did not have the keys, we just popped the hood, removed the master cylinder bail and open the door....

Best,
Phil

There are a few oldie options, not many here would even know about. To wit:

Some mid 50s Chrysler models were available with a real turntable!

The mid 50s, also brought us both Ford and Chryslers with a vacuum ash tray.

Some 60s VW were sold with mini-cassette players.

How about swivel front seats, or square steering wheels?

Trunk mounted air-conditioning, used to be the rage at GM in the late 40s and early 50s.

The first vehicle FM was introduced in 1953, and the first stereo in 1955.

With all the rage in AC power these days, it is interesting to note, that for 56 and 57, Ford offered an optional AC socket in the trunk. Just a measly 100 watts, and it used a vibrator driven inverter.

And lastly, here's one few can answer. Who and when was the first automatic transmission offered? No, it wasn't Oldsmobile in 1939! Nor was it Chrysler's fluid clutch 2X2!

One I forgot! When did Chevy first offer a V8 Engine?

We had an old ridge runner that would pump whiskey right into your glass from a little hose in the glove box , had no windshield to clean so we rerouted the washer pump hose ... I gave the idea to the big 3 at the time (mid 80's) but got no responses...

Well, I hate to telegrah my age, but everyone here knows I'm old. I started with an AM only radio, and remember the 45 rpm record players that hung from the dash. Those weren't that great, and I couldn't afford one anyway. When the 8 track cassettes came along I was ready to go. Eight track tapes sucked, and didn't last long, but I was hot stuff. After I had a crap load of 8 tracks somebody invented the smaller cassette tapes. Oh shit, what am I gonna do with all the 8 track junk? Didn't matter, I had to have a cassette player in my GTO. Done, and done. And then, yeah you guessed it, CD's, and the players came along. I stuffed all my cassettes in the same box that 8 tracks were in, and off to the audio store I went. Mo money, mo money.......CD's were the bee's knee's. Then some little whipper snapper went and invented MP3 digital music. Damnit, here I go again..........BTW, and have a shit load of 8 tracks tape, and cassette tapes along with like 100 CD's stuffed in a friggin box in the basement. Can anyone use 'em?
