I picked up a chip in my LS tailight. It's not big but it is an access point for moisture. I'm likely going to replace it (yes, I know around $1000 for a BLIS tailight) my question, are these tailights plug-n-play or due to the BLIS do they need to be synced, aligned, or calibrated by the dealer to install?

How bad is your chip? As far as moisture access the taillights do have a vent hole in the outer clear cover. It on the outside a third the way down from the top. So if its a crack or even a small hole i'd seal it up with some clear silicone and save the money, unless it really bothers you.

As far as your question about calibration I don't know. but, with BLIS being adjustable for trailer length is is possible I guess. I think the number for a new light is closer to $1200, if it needs programing/calibration, WOW! Getting up there with Lariat headlights. $$$$$

Did you ever replace your light? I just noticed mine mysteriously picked up a hole. Looking at options and cost. Thinking about having insurance pick it up since my deductible will be less than the replacement cost.

We had to replace a mirror on our Explorer (has all the bells and whistles) and it had to be reprogrammed.

Yep, not sure how the hole got there, but I can't leave it too long without getting it fixed/replaced.

I ended up gluing mine with clear Gorilla Glue. The piece where the hole was, had fallen inside. I was able to fish it out and glue it in place. It’s not the prettiest job, but all the cracks are sealed and I didn’t spend $1100.

Can get em for about $700 on the line. Still crazy expensive though, especially if you're not the one that broke it.

From Ford dealer today: “A replacement tail light after tax is $1,319.59. Since it's a special order part, we would require prepayment. If you would like us to order it for you, I can send a link to pay online.”
