TailHook Tailgate Tie-down Bracket

Found these from another site and they are on Etsy. He is doing a test run of 100 to see how they sell. Just installed mine today. Awesome! Great packaging, instructions and overall quality. I ran into one issue. I have the RealTruck Swing Out boxes and the Tie Down Brackets hit the mounting bracket of the Swing Out boxes. A few minutes with the angle grinder and a couple shots of black spray pant and all was good. No issues with the tailgate damper. First photo is from his Etsy page.

Cool - if I am hauling (2x) lumber , I cargo strap the stack across the gate and then cargo strap the stack from that to the bed hooks - so one strap secures the stack and the other keeps it from sliding - side and aft, I think I would be cautious on how tight you pull the cargo straps , might tweak (bow) the gate.

Would make me very nervous. I don’t think it would take much to tweak the gate on our Rangers.

I’ll pass! Had something similar on my old work truck and learned the hard way that you probably shouldn’t use your tailgate as an anchor point for cargo… That was an expensive mistake that I won’t make make again.

That was my initial thought but but based on his testing I am sure it will handle a ratchet strap securing a dozen 2x4's to get home from Home Depot. From his Etsy page...

I had a few hundred feet of conduit in the bed with the tailgate down. Bed and ladder rack were packed full of other material and my tools so I couldn’t get to the anchors on the sides of the bed. I had previously installed some D rings on the tailgate for holding a wire rack (that’s how we pulled long runs) and figured I’d use them to tie down the pipe. I wasn’t going very far so I thought it would be fine. Hit a bump going up a steep hill and the weight of the pipe bouncing pulled the tailgate up off the hinges and dragged my tools with it. Everything went tumbling down an embankment on the side of the road. If that wasn’t bad enough, my coffee spilled too. That was not a good day…

I agree they will work and a great idea - it was just a simple observation of - wondering how much force would it take to bow the gate out of plane.

I was wondering that too but I know one thing, I will never need it to handle 300 lbs. Another shot with a background not stripped out. A few 2x4', washer or dryer, just house stuff. The best part of being retired.

Neat product and certainly tempting for those of us frequently hauling things in a short bed. I'm a bit surprised OEMs don't offer things like this from the factory....

Then again they cut the middle tie down all to save $1 so I shouldn't be too surprised.

OUCH! Losing a load always feels bad... the coffee is just a personal attack.
