Photos posted earlier are close, too close for me to visualize where this goes. Does anyone have other photos that can help me better see where this goes? Thanks.

My hinge has a black plastic color going around the pin, and I have no issues with mine trying to come out, maybe yours is missing this part?
Pivot bushings?

Pics of my installed Tailgate Lock below.

I installed my Tailgate Lock for piece of mind while I'm hiking and parked at remote trailhead locations. Now a bonus... I won't need to worry about my tailgate popping out unexpectedly.

Easy install. One person, 5-minutes.

Purchased from @LevittownFordParts.com

Thanks, Benny !

Shortly after i got my '19 Ranger, I noticed the little black plastic collar cracked in half laying on my driveway. Apparently that is the super-engineered solution from Ford to keep the tailgate pin in the right place. Since then, every once in a while the right side of gate will come unpinned when closing and I need to slide it back in place while shutting the gate. Oh well...?‍♂... is what it is...

I'll be happy if this is the worst thing I need to deal with :like:

Yeah, it is a pretty flimsy plastic clip.

I will say that I'm not so sure that adding the lock was the right solution for me.

I was partly worried about tailgate theft but I'm in a tiny town. Plus, I'm an XL, so even my tail lights are not terribly valuable to steal (no blis, and only $200 each).

I don't foresee needing to remove the tail gate BUT it could be nice to do when I use that little receiver hitch crane.

For me to remove the tailgate now would be a pretty royal pain ...
